I have purchased the Olympus DS-5000 digital voice recorder and have the DSS player pro software V5.2 installed on my PC. I am using Dragon NaturallySpeaking Professional 10.1 and had already created a fairly well established user profile to use with a wireless microphone and so created a new user profile specifically for the recorder. I was very thankful to find Knowbrainer's "How to Create a NaturallySpeaking Digital Recorder User Profile" on this forum to follow. I have successfully transcribed files through Dragon since but only if I convert them to .wav files first and use the Dragonbar “transcribe a recording” button which takes me to a window to browse to the converted wav. file. Do I have to do that? Some documentation I have read says "the Olympus DS-5000 digital recorder is the mobile solution that enables you to create reports, correspondence, e-mail and more-virtually anywhere. Then just return to your computer and place the recorder into the provided "cradle". The Olympus DSS player pro program will start and your dictated audio uploaded to the PC. Select one or more of the dictated audio files and click the big "Dragon" icon in the DSS player pro software and your dictation will be sent to the NaturallySpeaking program to be transcribed immediately onto your screen and into your document." and also the Knowbrainer document for creating the user profile at point 11 seems to indicate that it should transcribe directly from the uploaded DS 2 file-"...although it can transcribe from a number of formats". Is this the case ? Should I be able to insert the recorder into its cradle after I have created a new file, upload it to the DSS player pro software and just click on the red Dragon with Dragon running and my recorder profile loaded and then have it transcribe directly to a Word document? Or do I have to convert each DS 2 file to a wav file and then transcribe from the Dragonbar? If so, it seems very long winded and not what seems to be indicated in the various documentation. Am I expecting too much? What is the red button in the DSS player pro software for? Have I installed the DSS player pro software correctly? When I click on the red Dragon it won't transcribe my uploaded file into a word document or Dragonpad document whether it is a DS2 file or a wav file. It just brings up the recording and the blank Word screen and the recording seems to play silently but no transcription results. See attached. If someone could enlighten me on how the red button works in DSS player pro and what is the best and quickest process for transcribing files from the recorder I would be very most grateful. Cheers CAS

Quote: have the DSS player pro software V5.2 We believe that Ver. 5.07 is the latest release but you can tell what version you are using by clicking About DSS Player Pro under the Help menu. Quote: What is the red button in the DSS player pro software for? DNS Ver. 8 and previous versions required converting DSS and DS2 recordings into wav files before transcribing but this practice ended with the release of DNS Ver. 9. You should be able to simply left click on a DS2 file (to select it) and click and Dragon icon to initiate transcribing. We've noted your error and it appears that the playback control is launching instead of the transcription link. We have reported this problem to Olympus inside tech support but we currently can't launch our copy of the DSS Player Pro software on our Vista 64-bit computer so we're also waiting on some answers from Olympus. You might want to contact us directly at Olympus support so that we can keep you up-to-date on our progress. -------------------------
