Since the upgrade 10.1 there is no longer the option to select Olympus DVR when setting up the transcription profile, but the option to select Digial recorder using sound files (wav. mp3, wma) on disk. The DSS player will not conver the file to a WAV file. Other file conversion packages will convert the WMA file to WAV but Dragon will not accept it to create the profile. Anyone else come accross this and have a soluction. I suspect, you need to Purchase DSS Plus which does the file conversion - but will that work if you cant select the Olympus DVR when training the profile?

I have the Olympus software that comes with the DS5000. It does convert the DSS format to wav, automatically with a change in settings, or manually by selecting the conversion icon in the upper left. I think the software version is 5, but my previous version 4 also did this. I use DNS 10 pro, and it works fine with my wav files.

The software that comes with the DS-5000 is the DSS Player Pro which is a step above the DSS Player Plus; both of which are capable of converting Olympus proprietary recordings (WMA, DSS, DS2) into an appropriate wav file for NaturallySpeaking. The DSS Player software, that is include with Olympus consumer line of recorders, does not include this feature. However, this problem is easily remedied by clicking on the Help menu and selecting the $9.95 option to upgrade the DSS Player software to the DSS Player Plus.
Do not select the Olympus DVR option whether or not it is available. When you create your digital user profile choose the Digital recorder using sound files (.wav) on disk and convert your training file into a wav file. Note that NaturallySpeaking only requires a wav file when creating a new user profile. NaturallySpeaking Preferred and higher can natively transcribe other formats once you have created a digital recorder user profile. However, we find digital recorders that utilize DS2 algorithms work best. You might find our Digital Recorder Guide helpful. -------------------------
