I've used a Sennheiser ClipMic to record a wav file in Apogee MetaRecorder app on my Iphone X and then save it to Dropbox. Later on I wanted to use my Dragon NaturallySpeaking v15 to transcribe the wav file. It didn't allow me saying that the sampling rate should be at least 16 KHz. I tried recording different sampling rates from 22 to 96kHZ. What should I do to be able to transcribe this wav file in Dragon?

Welcome to the World's Most Popular Speech Recognition Forum

When end-users attempt to use professional equipment, sound cards or software, with Dragon, they usually fail. While 16 kHz (the Dragon Help menu got this wrong) is your minimum sampling rate, your recordings need to be monophonic and in .wav, .MP3, .WMA, .DS2 or .M4a format. You made more work than is necessary. The iPhone's X 's built-in recorder should be OK (think Geico) but if you need this ability for your workflow, we recommend a professional transcription digital recorder which
records in .DS2 lossless highly compressed limited frequency, which is specifically designed for dictation and easily twice as accurate.

Thanks so much. Yes, the change to mono did the trick. I'm so happy about it.
I have an Olympus DS-7000, but for me, the performance is less accurate, maybe because of my foreign accent, I don't know. I'm looking at maybe adding a Sennheiser EM3 -EW to it and trying to automate the process using the Dragon transcription agent. I tried dictating in the past and gave it up, but now I'm determined to persevere. Any tips to improve accuracy most welcome.

The incorporated DS-7000 microphone is very good and substituting with any other microphone will probably not make your recordings any better and may even lower your accuracy. We also like the default DS2 algorithms.

Is Olympus DS-9500 much better than DS-7000? Is it worth upgrading (apart from the WiFi functionality)?

What input file type is better for transcription accuracy in Dragon v15.3?

While features, noise filtering and software improvements were added to the Olympus DS-9500, higher accuracy is not one of those improvements because both recorders utilize the same algorithms and DS2 format. We recommend against replacing your DS-7000 with the DS-9500 because it doesn't justify the expense.

I've just got an Olympus DS-9500, and now I'm kind of struggling with the setting up.

I managed to make it use the wifi from my hot spot on my iPhone X.

I want to be able to save the DSS file on a cloud (like icloud/ dropbox or my odrive that I set up specifically for this). And then have the Dragon Transcription agent from Dragon 15.3  do the transcription automatically when the file is available. The Dragon agent set up is done, but the Olympus DS-9500 set up still needs work.

Please could anyone point me in the right direction? Any help is most appreciated.

I'm going to post this in an Olympus DS-9500 thread.

This is precisely why you should only purchase from an Olympus qualified and licensed reseller. Olympus resellers are responsible for your all of your support. Your 1st move should be to contact your reseller. Considering that the Olympus DS-9500 is the same MAP priced everywhere, the reseller is as important as your recorder choice because the manufacturer will send you back to your reseller for support.

We assume you mean DS2 rather than DSS files. DSS is a legacy file format that is still available but hasn't been recommended for Dragon use since the release of Ver. 11.

You can set up your ODMS options to save your downloads to the cloud etc. rather than the default %UserProfile%\Documents\ODMS\Message\FolderA address but our preference is to eliminate the middleman by setting up the AutoTranscribe Folder Agent to automatically (hence the name) transcribe your recordings from your recorder.

Thanks so much for your help with this. Yes, I intend to use the AutoTranscribe Folder Agent to automatically transcribe, but my problem is I don't seem to be able to save wirelessly to a folder (be it on a cloud or just my PC).

I managed to email my file OK, but I would like to save the file to a folder as you suggested. How could I do that? What settings to I need?

I am struggling to get my files sent via e-mail from my recorder.  I go through all the steps as listed in the manual but the file does not seem to actually send.  It does not show in Yahoo's sent mail folder.  What e-mail service are you using to send the e-mails?

PS - I like your idea of using the cloud and the transcribe folder agent.

To find out what kind of impact, if any, the device or the file format has on accuracy, speak into and record with both devices at the same time, and then compare the transcriptions.

Thanks so much. I don't have an Olympus DS-9500, just contemplating if it's worth the upgrade from DS-7000.
Yes, I could do my own experiments on file formats effect on accuracy, but I was looking for a shortcut and learn from other people's experiences.

***Update**** I've successfully sent a file via e-mail. Not a large file (less than 1 MB) but it looks like it takes about 10 minutes to get from the recorder to my inbox.

Thanks so much, Dragon Bob. That sounds great progress.

I have managed to download wirelessly to a folder using the Internet from my home network. When I'm using the Internet while connected to my iPhone it doesn't work. Which is frustrating as this is the one I need to use while outside in the fields. What am I missing?

Whatever could go wrong it did go wrong. I can't help being frustrated of my little progress: what happened to the plug and play? Why do we need to worry about FTP, SNP, IP address, port etc? Why isn't this handled silently and elegantly in the background by the program that should be able to extract this info by itself? Rant over.

Your Olympus licensed reseller is required to help you set up your ODMS on your computer so this should be your 1st move. This service is included with your purchase because you cannot call Olympus for support.

Fortunately, you have another option you can use as a temporary solution. You will have to physically drop your recorder into the DS-9500 USB cradle. We know this is not what you prefer but this option will allow you to set up the AutoTranscribe Folder Agent to transcribe recordings from your ODMS download folder. However, you can optionally set up the AutoTranscribe Folder Agent to treat your recorder as a hard drive and transcribe directly from your recorder. This is our favorite choice because it tends to be more bulletproof.

Thanks so much, Lunis. That is a great idea. Brilliant.

I'm also starting to believe that saving to a folder while connected to my phone is not possible. I just wish someone could confirm that, so I stop trying to find a solution for it.

I used a recording app on my iphone to record, then saved it to Dropbox from the app (using Wifi, but presumably you could set your iphone options to save over cell bandwidth too). The Dragon agent watched the destination folder on my desktop computer and automatically transcribed incoming files. All of that took maybe two minutes from saving it to reading the transcribed file. I would then do a second cycle of dictation using the first-cycle Word doc to read (and correct from). It was a very fast and efficient way of getting high-quality word transcriptions of whatever I was dictating. MUCH faster than trying to correct the first draft by editing.
