Need your help to determine why the Digitial Voice Editor software from sony is not working with Dragon 10.1 Professional.  I cannot get a message (once selected) to highlight the voice recognition button (shaded out, currently).

Running a new Dell Inspiron14z, 8GB RAM Intel i5 processor.

Thanks in advance for the assistance!

We are unfamiliar and don’t work with Sony recorders because they do not utilize the Olympus DS2 algorithms (there is nothing better) but we can at give you a workaround:

Let's begin by finding out where Sony is downloading your recordings. They are probably being downloaded in the vicinity of
C:\Users\(your computer name)\Documents\ VoiceEditor\ect…
. If you can figure out the exact address, you can create a shortcut to this folder on your desktop for direct quick access to those files and then drag and drop each file, 1 at a time, onto the DragonBar or DragonPad for instant transcription.

HOWEVER, because you're using DNS Pro, you may have another option which might make you not care about your Voice Editor software again. We say “may” because we cannot remember if the AutoTranscribe Folder Agent was introduced in DNS Pro 10 or 11.

Our recorder of choice is the Olympus
DS-7000 which includes their impressive Dictation Module application but guess what, we could care less about the new Olympus Pro fancy application because we're using something much better. As you can tell from this Mother's Day posting, we spend a good deal of time avoiding the Big Haired Lady answering questions and creating manuals such as our new DS-7000 user guide which includes a pictorial step-by-step chapter on how to set up the AutoTranscribe Folder Agent. Here's the short version:

1. Begin by closing NaturallySpeaking
2. Open the AutoTranscribe Folder Agent via Windows Start menu
3. Type the address of your user profile into the AutoTranscribe Folder Agent “Input directory”
4. Create a folder on your desktop for the output directory
5. Type the address of your NaturallySpeaking user file in the “User Location” box

As long as NaturallySpeaking remains closed, you can make an unlimited number of recordings and just drop your digital recorder into the USB cradle and forget about it. Each file will automatically be transcribed (without prompting or human intervention of any kind) and if you want to watch the progress, you can just double-click your desktop Output folder. Note that if you use the Windows 7, you might consider engaging the Preview pane which will allow you to view the contents of each file without opening it. Nothing compares to the AutoTranscribe Folder Agent if you need to do batch recordings. DNS Premium users have to settle for transcribing 1 file at a time and waiting for the file to transcribe before they can do anything else (unless they purchase the new DS-7000 or DS-3500 which also includes batch transcribing). DNS Pro users have the advantage of batch file transcription and being able to use their computer for anything that doesn't require speech recognition because it all takes place in the background.

Note that our favorite feature of the DNS
Pro 11.5 Upgrade is its digital recorder transcription accuracy over Ver. 10.

Lunis,

Thank-you for an awesome post & response!  I also greatly appreciate your time to response on Mother's day.  The autotranscribe agent is part of DNS 10.1 PRO & I've been amenable but not super pleased w/ the dictation accuracy.  The time savings you alluded to is definately the major benefit.  If only with the .dra file could be saved with the output text, so I can go back & edit easier/in-sync w/ the text.

I'm really excited about your comments regading the Olympus DS-7000.  Can you estimate an order of magnitude difference between two different examples for me?

Example #1: DNS 10.1 PRO w/ Olympus DS-7000 vs. my current ICD-MX20 recorder

 Example #2: DNS 11.5 PRO w/ Olympus DS-7000 vs. my current ICD-MX20 recorder + DNS 11.5 PRO

 Greatly appreciate your help,

 -James

Thank you for verifying the AutoTranscribe Folder Agent in Ver. 10. We had simply forgotten when Nuance introduced it.

If a digital recorder plays a major role in your workflow, upgrading from Pro 10 to Pro 11.5 would be our 1st recommendation because we believe the Ver. 11 accuracy improvements impact recordings more than improvements made to the microphone user profile. In other words if you have to choose one or the other, you will probably get more bang for your buck by upgrading to Pro 11.5.

As far as recorder accuracy is concerned, in either version of NaturallySpeaking, it's hard to be precise but we believe the average end-user will experience anywhere from 25% to 50% fewer misrecognitions with the DS-7000 but of course, like everything we sell, we guarantee customer satisfaction. However, once you have seen the backlit color screen and the oversized microphone on the DS-7000, you may find it hard to put it down
