Is there any way to use a shortcut key to bring up the Transcribe a file dialog? I tried creating a shortcut for but it gives me a message saying that "This feature is not supported in this edition of Dragon." So, I'm guessing that it is only available in Professional. I've got an Olympus DS-5000id and I'm trying to figure out a faster way to transcribe short chunks of speech. Right now I'm finding that all the messing about of hooking up the recorder and using the DSS Player Pro to transfer and then having to click on a dozen buttons a real wait of time when it comes to really short recordings. It is fine if I've recorded a couple of files that are >5mins long . . . but I'm trying to figure out a quick way to deal with the little thoughts that I capture in the 20-90 second range. Anyone have some suggestions? Or is the only way to address this to bite the bullet and spend $400 to upgrade from Premium to Professional? Are you aware that in DNS 11 you might as well just use the DS2 files from the recorder and transcribe them straight using the Dragon menu under "Tools"? This should also work in Premium. Rüdiger

Yes. I just discovered that last night. Now I'm just looking for a way to have a shortcut key bring up that dialog that comes up in the 'Tools' menu. What I'm hoping to start doing is just inserting the SD card from my recorder into my laptop and then transcribe the files straight into Dragon as quickly and effortlessly as possible. Unfortunately, the dialog box that comes up after clicking 'Tools' and 'Transcribe Recording...' doesn't allow drag'n drop of files. Which means a lot of clicking through more dialogs to find each file . . . The more I play around with this the more upgrading to Pro looks like the best answer. But boy $400 is a lot of money to spend just for the Auto-Transcribe feature. ------------------------- DNS v11 : Samson Airline 77 : Win 7 Pro : Intel Core i7 2600 3.4-3.8 GHz : 8MB/cache : 8GB DDR3 : Olympus DS-5000id : Grundig Digta 704BT |

Which version of the DSS Player are you using? In my version, after connecting the device an automated download from the device will be initiated, and with the files showing in the DSS Player explorer, with Dragon loaded, a button will be activated for immediate transcription into Dragon. Rüdiger

I'm using version 5.0 - sounds like I might just need to setup it up better. Maybe I'll create a shortcut of DSS Player Pro and an automated download for the SD card. I'm trying to get away from using cables and connecting the recorder. Since, I'm looking to use this as my 'mobile' setup . . . maybe I'll see if the DSS software will see and auto-download the card on is own. ------------------------- DNS v11 : Samson Airline 77 : Win 7 Pro : Intel Core i7 2600 3.4-3.8 GHz : 8MB/cache : 8GB DDR3 : Olympus DS-5000id : Grundig Digta 704BT |

However, putting the device into the cadle will automatically start it, or else if you don't have the cradle with you, just plugging the USB cable into the computer and switching on the device. Nothing could be easier from my point of view. Rüdiger

Okay, I just tested out works great. Thanks again, -Jeff ------------------------- DNS v11 : Samson Airline 77 : Win 7 Pro : Intel Core i7 2600 3.4-3.8 GHz : 8MB/cache : 8GB DDR3 : Olympus DS-5000id : Grundig Digta 704BT |

Quote: It is pretty powerful software once it is setup right. Indeed it is, it has been been just designed to accomodate the task. You couldn't even expect Dragon itself catering for it, because it is just device specific. Rüdiger

JT, As you've already found out from Rudiger, the DSS player software is precisely the best way to batch all of your audio files. Just doesn't make sense to do it any other way. However, I'll just add a couple of quick points relative both your posts: 1. It isn't necessary to create a shortcut to pull up the "Transcribe" dialog. All you have to do is say "transcribe recording" to bring up that dialog whenever and if ever you need it. 2. You would have wasted your money upgrading to DNS 11.5 Pro because, IMHO, the Auto-Transcribe Folder Agent simply isn't worth it anyway. It's complex to set it up, I personally don't like the way it works, and I used it once and junked the whole idea because it screwed up a couple of my audio file transcriptions. Simply not worth going to Pro for (i.e., not worth $400). Chuck Runquist -------------------------
