I recently went from DNS 9.5 preferred on VIsta to DNS 10 standard on Win 7 on a new machine. Due to some hiccups in the transition I was not able to import my old user files.

Now I am having a great deal of difficulty getting certain custom words trained. For example, although I must have trained this word over 20 times it still gives me "is gone" when I say "ISKCON".

There are a few other words and phrases like this which are fairly close to some other standard word or phrase and I have not been able to train to recognize correctly.

Are there any suggestions on how I can better deal with training custom words like this?

If you add the word "ISKCON", Dragon will auto-generate an underlying pronunication like this: "I S K C O N", or to spell it differently, "eye ass kay see oh en". Either you try training the word in the vocabulary editor, or you could try adding a spoken form trying to match, or mimick rather, what you pronounce it like. However, the way you pronounce it must be very close to "is gone", therefore, you might as well add "is gone" as spoken form. But, this way, whenever you speak "is gone", you will get "ISKCON"! -- Welcome to the world of continuous speech recognition...

Just out of curiosity, is there a reason why you downgraded to DNS Standard? We ask because the Preferred 10.1 Upgrade is typically the same price as DNS Standard and is a full copy. We don't recommend DNS Standard for anyone and that's why you won't see it on our website but our 1st recommendation, if your software is less than 30 days old and was purchased from a legitimate source such as a licensed vendor or over-the-counter from places like Staples, would be for you to return your software to Nuance (800) 654-1187 for a full refund. Upgrading from Preferred 9 to Standard 10 is equivalent to taking 1 step forward and 2 steps back because you're losing a lot of functionality. We suspect that you purchase the full copy of DNS Standard because you thought you couldn't use the Preferred upgrade on Windows 7 but this is a misnomer. Just food for thought...

What happened was that I responded to a advertisement for DNS 10 offering it at about $25 after rebate and did not notice that it was for the standard version. At the time I was out of the country and so I couldn't return it in time for a refund.
