I love the program, but how can I get it to stop using caps after a natural pause to take a breath? like I said, I love the program, but this fascination with capital letters is driving me crazy. How can I get it to stop this? All suggestions are welcome. |

Welcome to the KnowBrainer Forums
This is definitely not normal NaturallySpeaking behavior but it would help if you could give us a little more information. Does this problem only occur in one application? If so, does the problem occur in a specific document or template? If so, you may be suffering from a formatting issue which is fairly common in Microsoft Word documents. Creating a new template/document or possibly dictating into another application should fix this problem. -------------------------

I have noticed this recently when I am dictating into an e-mail and even on this forum. I have started dictating e-mails into my WordPerfect and then copying and pasting them to the Internet program.

It is not uncommon for DNS to pick up breath sounds and set the capitalization on (\Cap or Cap). This usually occurs with microphones that are not either noise canceling or do not provide good noise canceling. Nevertheless, even noise canceling microphones can pick up breath sounds and interpret them as an attempt to execute a command, which DNS then picks and chooses how it interprets that sound. Sometimes it attempts to display certain types of text (this, him, etc.) and sometimes it substitutes whatever command most closely matches the sound itself. Otherwise, I concur with Lunis. This is not the normal behavior of DNS. Chuck & al., if it is true that the microphone picks up certain sounds and translates them to "Cap", for instance, you should find that in the recognition history, which I would recommend to look up anyway if that occurs. If it isn't, it might be simply a problem with the text editor not being Select-&-Say enabled. Rüdiger

Rüdiger, I would tend to agree. However, I haven't paid much attention to the view recognition history because I can see the words or commands displayed in the results box. Under that condition, I know they're in the view recognition history. Chuck, well, it may be of some worth looking at it from time to time. To illustrate this, let me tell a little story. The man in the room next to my office became a disciple of the Dragon during the last year, or perhaps he will never make it there, but every now and then he comes over to report me some "strange" behaviour of Dragon. One day, he was really upset when he entered, and he told me that this program settled to doing all kinds of spooky things. I asked what it was, and he showed me a text he had just finished, which started out and ended as expected, more or less, but contained literally pages of gibberish right in the middle. I asked him if perhaps he had interrupted the dictation in between, and he said he did, ansering the phone. I replied to him that for me it was quite obvious that he must have forgotten to turn off the microphone. But he denied this very stubbornly and just didn't trust what I was explaining to him, insisting on the program deviously garbling up his text somehow. At that point, I opened the recognition history, which he wasn't aware of being there, scrolled it up, and there it was, all printed black on white. You should have seen his face, then. Rüdiger
