Hi, guys.. I bought DNS Pro 8.1, a powerful laptop (specs in profile), Andrea external sound card/USB adaptor, and finally a Sennheiser ME 3 headset (thanks, Marty), and things improved greatly. My error rate dropped by half. But it's still high. If others think it's worth collecting tips in one place, can we try it here? Not detailed instructions on how to correct; those are elsewhere. And not necessarily the tips easily found in Marty's article, Ian's FAQ, things to which this forum provides easy links. e.g.: Think your sentence through and say the whole thing at once--someone said that in the old forum. That helps a bit. Drink a lot of water: my speech therapist insisted on that. DNS steals my voice; when my mouth is dry, my speech sounds thicker on playback, and errors rise. More? I can't be the only one wrestling with the Dragon. |

I try to speak in a monotone, and try very hard not to let my voice trail off at the end of sentences. Also, with each version of DNS there are some words or phrases that I use often that are simply mistaken over and over again. For example, in versions 5-6 the word "none" was never typed correctly. I therefore added a macro and simply said "nuttin-honey" to get the program to type "none". In version 7, the word "Glucophage" never came out right. I simply switched to the generic "metformin". For some reason, in version 8, Glucophage comes out fine but metformin often screws up. The point is, word macro workarounds are often necessary.------------------------- James Weissman, MD |
