When I'm composing a message in Outlook 2007, I can select some text and issue a command to make it bold, or italic, or Courier font (my own script). But if I select some text and say "set font size 12" (or similar commands to produce the same result), the result is bad. The computer completely locks up until I hit Alt+Esc. This opens up the Start menu, and everything is working again. Except that when I switch back to the message I was composing, I get an immediate report that Outlook is stopped working, followed by an attempt to search for a solution to the problem, followed by Outlook restarting. Has anybody seen this behavior, or know what causes it? Failing that, any suggestions for diagnosing the source of the problem?

We are not experiencing this problem but we can visually see that Outlook 2007 has to struggle a bit. The set font size 12 command is very slick in Word 2007 because it is directly coded into the application but in Outlook 2007, the developers chose to use menu commands which tend to be a bit clumsy. We suspect the command deployment speed might be a little too fast for your system and not giving Outlook enough time to react properly which can result in instability.

Is any solution possible, or am I just going to be out of luck? FWIW, I've written custom commands of my own to do things in Outlook 2007 message editing by using menus (such as the one I wrote for doing other character formatting). Mine don't have a problem, but the developers probably know a zippier way than I do. I'd like to modify the offending command. Is there a way, or did they make it untouchable? ------------------------- /Bruce/ [aka Slasher] DPC, USN (ret.) |
