When I use the 'New Line' command, the cursor moves down but starts the line with a non-capitalized word. Is it possible to change the 'New Line' command so that the first word of the new line is always capitalized? Thanks SK PS: I am using DNS10 to dictate in MS Office 2007. |

1. Say show Vocabulary Editor
2. Move the slider on the right side of the Vocabulary Editor box up to the top so you can see the non-Written Form words which are dictation commands. 3. Highlight the New-Line Spoken Form command 4. Click the Properties button 5. Change Format the next word from with normal capitalization to capitalized and click OK Note the blue* in the Written Form. Click Close and your problem is history. -------------------------

Is there a way to do the same with a "comma" followed by a "new line"?
That would simplify capitalisation at the beginning of a letter. ie dictating "Dear Sir [comma] [new line]" would then be followed by a capital letter. Simon

1. Say show Vocabulary Editor
2. Type a , (comma) into the Written Form and the phrase comma line into the Spoken Form. 3. Click the Add button 4. Click the Properties button 5. Change Format the next word from with normal capitalization to capitalized 6. Change Insert 1 to 0 spaces before 7. Change and follow with nothing to New Line and click OK You may have to train your new phrase a few times but in our opinion, it may not be worth your time because if you use our previous, more bulletproof, solution (3 postings back in the thread), you can just say New-Line after you dictate the comma which you can do without pausing because these are vocabulary commands. In other words you can dictate “Mary comma New-Line” without pausing. -------------------------

Quote: Is there a way to do the same with a "comma" followed by a "new line"? That would simplify capitalisation at the beginning of a letter. ie dictating "Dear Sir [comma] [new line]" would then be followed by a capital letter. Unfortunately, while KnowBrainer's suggestion with regard to modifying new-line isn't a bad idea, it produces an awkward affect. That is, it forces you to use next-line if you need to create a new-line without capitalizing the first word. I would reverse the process and set the properties for next-line to capitalize the first word instead of new-line. This is what I do so that I can use new-line when I don't want the next word capitalized. As regards modifying the properties for comma, that is a very bad idea. The reason is simply that you have only one entry for comma and you cannot add custom punctuation in either DNS 9-9.5 or DNS 10. Therefore, if you make the properties modifications suggested by KnowBrainer, what you end up with is that every time you want to use a comma, you'll get a new-line. That opens up a whole new can of worms. Bottom line is, don't mess around with the punctuation and be careful with the structured commands (vocabulary commands). You get yourself into situations you won't like. "Life's Rule #1: Once you pull the pin, Mr. Grenade is no longer your friend." (Variant of Murphy's Law - Edward A.
