Just got DNS 10 Preferred and tried to install on my Tablet (Motion Computing M1400) running Windows XP Tablet Edition (SP2). The installer keeps asking to put disc into drive though I have it there. Ran Windows Explorer which showed the DVD Drive but NO files of any kind are visible (tried option of ALL files, Program files and Setup files)!!! To check DVD Drive ran another DVD installtion disc and that worked fine! Never had this issue before.....any ideas/suggestions would be gratefully appreciated.
PS: Unfortunately uninstalled DNS 8.1 which by the way worked great for EMR dictations....hope I can get it back if DNS 10 does not work out. |

DNS Preferred, Version 10, will NOT let you dictate into ANY EMR application. It is the "newest" addition to DNS. :-) There are several posts on this forum that discuss the fact that as soon as DNS senses you are dictating into any EMR program, (except TexTalk) it turns off the microphone. Read Lunis' review of DNS 10. Check this posting: DNS 10 Preferred will not work within EMR under the EMR category. According to Lunis, the microphone turns off when the EMR gets focus. You're probably better off that DNS 10 wouldn't install if you plan on using it in an EMR program. Thanks for the input Dana. However my question remains......how do I get DNS 10 to install. Granted it will not work with EMR but I would want to use it for a variety of dictations into MS Word etc Appreciate any ideas! |

The first thing I'd do is try the disc in another machine (a desktop, or a friend's/family's) if you can and see if the same thing occurs. If it does, you may have a bad disc. It's happened to me before. But it's probably a very rare occurrence. If that's the case, you'll have to contact the vendor you purchased it from and go from there. Most companies are generally really good about things of that nature.

download the free utility "isobuster" to peek at the disk and see if files are on it. http://www.isobuster.com/isobusterdownload.php Steve ------------------------- Steve // Dragon 10 Medical // Athlon Quad 2.2 ghz // 4GB RAM // Sennheiser ME3 with VXI USB sound card // PowerMic 2 // Win XP Pro // Cerner EMR // NextGen EMR |

If memory serves correctly, the Motion 1400 experienced a lot of problems with NaturallySpeaking and many end-users were forced to give up when Motion couldn't come up with any solutions. The Motion 1600 was the 1st Motion computer to universally work well with NaturallySpeaking and we think that is the real problem. You could try copying your DNS Preferred DVD to your hard drive and installing from the hard drive but it may be time for a new computer.

Motion M1400 with DNS 8 (and Med vocabulary) worked great for me....though you are probably right it is about time to upgrade my hardware! Thanks

Is it possible that the installation disk is a dual-layer DVD that your drive can't read correctly? If you have an external hard disk, try using your other computer to copy the content of the DVD to a folder on the external drive, then move the drive to your Motion and try installing NS from the copied data.

We very much doubt that Nuance is using dual layer DVD technology because not all DVD players can read dual layers and it simply isn't necessary. In our opinion, DNS 9 should've been released on DVD and wasn't because Nuance didn't want to take the chance on someone not having a DVD reader. DNS Pro 10 is 1.63 Gb which follows the usual formula making it 1/3 larger than its predecessor. With that in mind, dual layer DVD technology wouldn't be required until we are in a nursing home.

Fortunately I was able to install DNS 10 on my Tablet by using the Shared DVD Drive on my Desktop. Thanks for all the input.....it is always illuminating for me. SNK |
