I have been testing and using VoicePower now for over 6 months and I am continually amazed at its comprehensiveness and usability. It doesn't matter whether you are a new user of Dragon NaturallySpeaking or a power user, VoicePower covers the full gamut of features and functions completely accessible by voice command. Writing a comprehensive review on VoicePower would be redundant. The website is superbly designed and all information is complete and easily accessible. I highly recommend all users of Dragon NaturallySpeaking to go to the following website and look for themselves. Nevertheless, I would only add a few quick points. VoicePower is 100% voice-enabled. From learning how to set up Dragon NaturallySpeaking for optimal performance and accuracy to the easy to use and powerful set of commands, there is no more comprehensive and easy-to-use, interactive, voice accessible help available anywhere else in any other product. All you have to do is ask for what you need. In short, VoicePower is Dragon NaturallySpeaking help and sample commands on steroids. All commands in VoicePower execute fast and efficiently regardless of what system you're running it on. VoicePower is designed for maximum speed and performance. VoicePower allows the user to use Dragon NaturallySpeaking virtually 99.9% hands-free. It is a must for those users who need hands-free access using Dragon NaturallySpeaking. VoicePower does not conflict with any other third party add-ons to Dragon NaturallySpeaking. KnowBrainer, Vocola, UniMacro, DNS comfort, etc. function perfectly with VoicePower. In fact, VoicePower enhances the functionality of all of these products. In short, it's not a question of either or, but a matter of how efficiently do you want Dragon NaturallySpeaking to work for you. VoicePower complements the use of all of these. VoicePower can be completely installed on a USB thumb drive and run entirely from that location. Once installed on a USB thumb drive, it is not necessary to reinstall VoicePower in order to move it from one system to another. Just plug it in and enable it. Its autorun feature will prompt you. It's that easy. Navigate directories, folders, and access (open) files with simple voice commands. Navigation and similar commands are fully user configurable. With VoicePower you can navigate Open/Save dialogs easily with simple voice commands. You can switch back and forth between panes in Windows Explorer using simple voice commands. In short, it simply isn't necessary to reinvent the wheel. VoicePower already does it all. Select, copy, and automatically paste text completely by voice from Internet webpages automatically into any open application. You can even use advanced scripting commands to paste text selected by voice from any webpage into virtually any application by using the "select text 2 copy" command, select the text you want by voice by simply saying "select from through , and then say "copy to ." Of course the latter requires an advanced scripting commands. However, if the application is already open, then the selecting of text and pasting it into that application is automatic. all VoicePower commands are simple, natural, easy to say, and are never, at least in my experience, misrecognized. To sum it up, whether: 1. you're teaching yourself to use Dragon NaturallySpeaking for the first time There is nothing more effective or efficient in performing more tasks hands-free by voice alone than VoicePower. Are there any downsides? The only downside that I have found in using VoicePower is the initial learning period required to peruse and learn how it works. After that, everything else is easy and 100% voice accessible. Charles E. Runquist Former Dragon NaturallySpeaking SDK Program Manager & Technical Solutions Project Manager -------------------------

From your findings, is it possible to " click and hold" a specific key? For example, if I needed the control key to be pushed, but not released, can Voicepower, or any other application you know of do this? ------------------------- Owner and Operator http://www.disabledonline.com |

Quote: From your findings, is it possible to " click and hold" a specific key? For example, if I needed the control key to be pushed, but not released, can Voicepower, or any other application you know of do this? Basically, yes it is possible to write a command that will click and hold a specific key, such as the control key, so that you can additionally perform another task. For example, you can create a script/command that will allow you to select individual items in a list, multiple individual items in a list, or complete sections of a list including the entire list. However, this is programming. This is command code writing using Advanced Scripting, KnowBrainer, or Vocola. This is not what VoicePower is about at all. VoicePower is about navigating, controlling, manipulating, or otherwise performing functions by voice that go well beyond simple command-and-control. VoicePower commands are not written in Advanced Scripting. They're basically written using Visual Studio coupled with another high-level language programming application. There designed to be quick, efficient, and reliable. In addition, there designed to augment DNS in ways that go beyond writing simple commands. For example, regardless of what version of DNS or any other third party application you currently have, can you go to a webpage, any webpage, and select any text anywhere in that webpage by voice and have it automatically copied into your currently open document, or, if you want, into a brand-new document. I don't mean doing this in bits and pieces. I don't mean doing this by highlighting the text with the mouse and then performing copy and paste functions. What I mean is can you currently do this completely 100% by voice without ever touching your mouse or your keyboard and complete the entire process and to simple voice commands? I don't think so. Can you do it with KnowBrainer? I don't think so. Can you do it with Vocola? I don't think so. Can you do it with Advanced Scripting? Possibly, but that would be well beyond the knowledge required of Advanced Scripting code writing techniques that even the most Advanced Scripting prolific users on this or any other form have in terms of skills and knowledge. However, the way it's done in VoicePower is clean, clear, quick, efficient, and totally controlled by voice. The process is also patent pending, which gives you some idea of how far beyond simple command creation and command-and-control VoicePower is.

Quote: The only downside that I have found in using VoicePower is the initial learning period required to peruse and learn how it works. After that, everything else is easy and 100% voice accessible. I think that this is true of most new programs. Following your previous explanation I have just purchased and installed VoicePower and will try it out. as you say it will take a while to navigate the program but it certainly seems to have some useful features, particularly searching for and opening files and folders. It does run concurrently with KB and it looks like the two programs complement each other. although e-mail response to questions and queries from the vendor was very quick it was a bit of a mission to pay by credit card and download the program via the internet and was probably my worst experience to date. The vendor was however apologetic and advised that the payment methods will be rectified very shortly. ------------------------- Jomark |

Without using a thumb drive - is the installation license limited to one machine or one user? Can it be fully installed on two machines simultaneously (office and home) although only one would be used at a time? That is, does it work like DNS where you get 10 installations?

The license allows for you to install on an office and home machine. 6 installations come with the product and 4 more by email request. Ron

Also noticed there was a $50 discount available to users of Knowbrainer. I hadn't considered this before, but based on some sterling reviews and the discount it's hard to resist.

You get 6 activations with this program. Also, you can have the program running side-by-side with an open application. All you have to do is say "Show Menu" and the menu will open and resize the open application so they are side-by-side. The open application will remain the active window. You can then browse through the VoicePower menu by first using the word "show...". I had been using Dragon for 5 years so I skipped the VoicePower desktop guide. But then I kept seeing references to the guide in the main program and I went back and found out there was a lot I could learn there are also. Voice Desktop lets you see all of your open applications and then you can position them in quadrants right or left or up and down on your open screen. You can create "Voice Shortcuts". I have a shortcut in Microsoft Word or I can open the letter Wizard or the envelope wizard with one command. You can also easily set up a command to save a file into a specific folder without going through a tree type menu. It will also add 10,000 commands automatically to Dragon. This is a very complicated program. I found it helped me to make a written outline so that I would know how to navigate. If you use the program on a USB key, you have to activate it on each computer. You only need one USB key. ------------------------- God bless, pray for peace |
