Hi. I've had this very strange situation recently where I talked to to people in an office with computer on (dragon mic off) and suddenly Dragon started playing back our whole conversation.

That was a bit scary. Anyone else has had a similar situation?

Was your mic really off, or just in sleep mode? Not unusual for mic to wake up from sleep mode with other conversation.

It might have been in sleep mode. True that.

But it played back our conversation out of nowhere. That's the strangest thing.

True MDH and sometimes the DragonBar icon does not show the actual mic state (it gets de-synced or just stops working) so can show Red mic off state even when mic is on.

Dragon may have interpreted something that was said as "read that" (which will replay the recording with a synthetic voice) or "play that" (which will replay the recording with the actual voice.)

But I think your concern might be that third-parties might be able to recruit Dragon as a surveillance tool. I suppose this is a possibility.

There is a Dragon setting that prevents your data from uploading to Nuance. My recollection is that Nuance says that they anonymize the data and use it to improve Dragon accuracy in future releases.

But is it possible that someone with technical expertise could override the setting that prevents voice data from uploading, and then use Dragon to record you? My guess is that the answer is yes.

Thanks Alan.

I'll call the support on Monday to ask about those issues.

You can try calling Nuance but in our opinion, you will be wasting your time. This is simply beyond their scope of training and can probably only be solved by either 3rd level support or developers. You simply don't have access to them.

We cannot fix this problem but the next time an unwanted text-to-speech event occurs, you can at least neutralize the playback by pressing the {Esc} Key
