I have suddenly run into a problem where any attempts to edit a script in DNS Pro 9 produces a fatal exception error. This occurs after clicking the "Edit" icon or menu option, and before the script editor window ever appears. This problem did not pop up until sometime in the past fortnight. I've tried creating a new user and importing my commands, with no change in behavior. I tried running a Repair Install, but no joy there either. Any suggestions or solutions greatly appreciated.

Bruce, Wow that's terrible and I believe possibly unprecedentedly reported. Let's examine the possibility of corrupt user files. Do create another new user, but stop there. See if browsing just the default built-in commands causes it die. If not importing commands works, then you will have to begin the process weeding out which command or commands got corrupted. Check off which commands you want to export, but not all of them. You can work in halves, and then half of that, until you determine if the fault lies within one particular command. Or you can just guess at maybe what the most recent commands are you edited and try excluding just those. Let us know here what you think or what happens. Well, a repair install of WinXP failed midstream, destroying the OS. So, I had to reinstall it from scratch, apply SP2 and all Windows updates. After that, I installed Dragon again. With a brand new user and no imported commands, I get the same exception error when the script editor tries to open. Incidentally, the exception error also occurs when I select the Add New Command command, so this problem isn't related to the Command Browser, but to opening the editor. So, I am at a loss for a solution to this one. Anyone?

I guess I'd search your hard drive to make sure that the version of the mycmds.dat file in your user is the same as the "fresh" version that comes with a new user. You aren't using Internet Explorer version 7, are you? I don't have any reason to think it causes problems, but I seem to recall that the old Command Browser was based on Internet Explorer, so I suppose going to version 7 could cause issues. I think these are long shots, but I don't know what else to suggest. ------------------------- |

AMD Athlon™ 64 3200+ CPU, 1 GB RAM, Andrea array DNS Pro 9.0. I can't think of anything else. Now I'm looking towards your hardware with a curious eye. I haven't provided help before to someone with 64 bit, so it just jumps out to me as the wild card. But really, can you think of anything that changed recently? Because I'm clueless too. Also Lunis just replied saying this may be more Windows oriented here But trying just a fresh user is a quick affair. ------------------------- Former primary author of Speechwiki NaturallySpeaking FAQ. |
