Went to manually turn microphone off to talk with someone, then after talking with that person noted the microphone was still on. Initially I thought that since I had been distracted, that maybe I did not properly turn the microphone off and needed to wait to get past the buffering. I closed my EMR and Notepad and still not able to turn microphone off.  5 minutes later, still unable to turn microphone off manually and had to kill DNS via Task Manager. See below Dragon log. Any ideas what happened???

Thanks.

Did you try mouse left clicking the little grey box with a red circle, in the upper left-hand corner of your Results Box. If you don't have the Results Box viewable, you can change this setting in the DragonBar View options by placing a checkmark in Show preliminary results.

Lunis,

Thanks for your reply. No, I did not try that as I hate the Results Box and intentionally make it not viewable. But what of the Dragon log? What problem is that pointing to as the cause?

Thanks.

Mark,

Surely you must have Lindsay's SpeechStart?  With that, you could have said, "Restart Dragon" and Dragon would have restarted.  If Microsoft Outlook, Word or any of those select and say type programs were already open, you would've needed to close and reopen them.  You also may have had to close Internet Explorer and reopen it again if it was open at the time of restarting Dragon via SpeechStart.

If I am not using DNS for a short period or even a longer one, I always turn the microphone off by saying "Microphone Off."  Then I turn it on again when I am ready to use it simply by saying the SpeechStart command "Switch on Dragon."  That way, there is no lag when you go to use it again.

Cheers

Tiger Feet (Andy?),

Yes, I am aware of Lindsay's SpeechStart, and even helped with the pre-release testing of it. It is a brilliant program which would be invaluable for a lot of people. There is some limitation in those using Windows XP (my office computer, supplied by the hospital, has XP, home is Windows 7). The accuracy of discrimination between dictation and proper command recognition is less in XP versus Windows 7. Lindsay will need to explain the technical details. Because of that, and that I have no physical limitations, I have less need of the program, although it is a invaluable to those that need it.

Ah... I did not realise you  were using XP. I should have checked your profile first. My mistake.

Cheers

Mark,

Are you saying that you have a problem using Lindsay's utility under Windows XP? I'm running DNS 10.1 Medical under Windows XP for testing purposes and I use it. In fact, properly set up, it works not only perfectly well under Windows XP, it even works slightly better than under Windows 7. However, you do have to install SAPI 5 (I believe it's SAPI 5 .1), but I had absolutely no problems doing so and it works like a charm for me.

Just curious as I could have misunderstood what you're trying to say in this regard.

MDH,
Are you using a laptop? There is a built in microphone that comes with your laptop that is sometimes not turned off when you start DNS. I had to go and manually turn mine off

Sorry to take so long getting back to you on this. It's the overflow buffer. If you have a five-minute conversation, with your microphone turned on, NaturallySpeaking could easily take 20 min. to figure out what you said because you are so far away from the microphone. NaturallySpeaking might eventually catch up but it could take a long time. End Tasking NatSpeak, via the Task Manager was your best option, under the circumstances. This is actually normal NaturallySpeaking behavior.
