Hello, I am new to this site.

What hardware do I need on laptop/pc to optomize DNS?  (sound card, input device, RAM)

Does the new iphone 4s work well with dns to use it only as a microphone?

On my pc, there appears to be less error than laptop despite using the same microphone.  Any reason for this?  Does hardware make a significant difference.

Thank you.

Welcome to the World’s Most Popular Speech Recognition Forum

Our 1st recommendation would be for you to fill out your member profile so that we know what version/flavor of NaturallySpeaking you were using along with what you are using for soundcard and microphone. This is exactly why we created a user profile section.

The most likely reason for your PC producing less errors than your laptop is because you are using integrated soundcards in both computers and the desktop computer simply has a slightly higher quality or better insulated soundcard. For serious work, we don't recommend using an integrated soundcard or the manufacturer OEM starter microphone. Rather than make a specific microphone recommendation, we would prefer to point you to our Microphone Comparison Matrix which you will find under the Recommended Links at the bottom left side of this page. Note that any microphone that doesn't automatically include a USB soundcard will include a highlighted recommendation to add 1.

The iPhone 4 is a cute wireless jack of all trades master of none gadget. Although it can be used as a wireless handheld microphone, do you really want to freeze up 1 hand having to hold your microphone as you dictate? Additionally, the built-in microphone, as you may have guessed, is not exactly top-of-the-line for speech recognition because it was never designed for this purpose. Will it work? YES. Is it well suited to the job? NO. That's why we recommend a real microphone and soundcard. NaturallySpeaking can only be as strong as its weakest link.
