Hello everybody!

Dragon NaturallySpeaking crashed on me followed by the C++ error message:

Runtime Error!
Program C:\Program ...
The application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the applications support team for  more information.

This has happened to me before. Eventually lead up to (though I can't be sure what the cause was) my entire system crashing and I had to reinstall everything.

So this is the first time after starting the computer again with a clean slate.

I did not want to unnecessarily create a new post so I scoured the other threads and C++ problems. However, I could not find my solution because:

(1) this C++ error message is not connected to installing DNS
(2) I don't think there any traces of earlier versions of DNS on my computer, which can be a source of trouble.
(3) the Windows 7 UAC is turned off.
(3) I have the following listed on"Programs and Features":

Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 x64 Redistributable Package - 10.0.30319
Visual C++ 9.0 Runtime for Dragon NaturallySpeaking 64-bit (x64)

So I'm wondering if anybody knows how to it troubleshooter from here.

I have attached my Dragon log.

Thank you for any help!

Dragon.txt.log
Dragon.txt.log  (15 KB)

Cheers,

Charles

UPDATE:

I received the following error code after both DNS and MS Word froze. DNS then recovered but Word crashed:

COM returned an unexpected error code: Details are RPC_E_CANTCALLOUT_INEXTERNALCALL

Then I saw DNS crashed with the same Microsoft Visual C++ error message described above.

Following directions from another thread http://knowbrainer.com/PubForum/index.cfm?page=viewForumTopic&topicId=2214 I looked in the Startup tab for "ctfmon.exe" to uncheck but it was not there.

Any suggestions?
Thanks for any help!

Cheers,

Charles

CTFMON.exe is exclusive to Windows XP so it is a nonissue for Windows 7; unlike the UAC which you appropriately disabled.

The RPC COM error simply refers to NaturallySpeaking not being able to talk to Microsoft Word. This isn't necessarily something to worry about unless it occurs fairly often.

We noted an instant where NaturallySpeaking couldn't save your user file but this is not that unusual and can usually be rectified by attempting to save your user file again. We found another area where the Acoustic Optimizer failed to launch for lack of data but this isn't a stability issue either. The COM errors deals with DNS not being able to communicate with Microsoft Word. You might consider performing a Repair on Microsoft Office.

PS: When you attached your log file, you didn't actually convert it to a text file. You simply added .txt to the name. However, this now appears to be a moot point because it looks like this new forum doesn't have trouble with the extension .log which means that anyone should be able to attach their Dragonlog without having to re-save it as a text file.

I am a different person trying to install Dragon 11.
The answers to this problem with Needing Visual C++ to install Dragon is not understandable to me.

Situation: Newly created Xp SP3 therefore no old Dragon 10 installed. I am running Word 2002 on my computer. It says something about opening runtime. What do I do?

I downloaded the software, but still I got the message saying that my computer lacked the necessary program.

Ellen,

What you're looking for is the Visual C++ 9.0 Runtime for Dragon NaturallySpeaking. You won't find it anywhere where you can download it. It's contained in the following folder on the DVD for DNS 11.5:

[DVD drive letter]:\ISSetupPrerequisites\VCRuntime

When you locate that folder on the DVD drive, you will find two files:

vcruntime.exe
vcruntime_x64.exe

The first one is for Windows XP, Vista, or Windows 7 32-bit, the second one is for Windows Vista or Windows 7 64-bit (note that Windows XP 64-bit is not supported under DNS 11.5 and I point that out only FYI because virtually no one has Windows XP 64-bit installed on your systems anyway). Nonetheless, to install Visual C++ 9.0 Runtime for Dragon NaturallySpeaking you would use the first file (vcruntime.exe). Note that this is only for 32-bit versions of Windows. If you're running Windows 7 or Windows Vista 64-bit then you need to use the Visual C++ Runtime for Dragon NaturallySpeaking 64bit (x64) (vcruntime_x64.exe). Depending upon which version of Windows you're using, these are automatically installed when you install Dragon NaturallySpeaking 11-11.5. You do not need to do anything special to get these installed. It's all automatic when you install Dragon NaturallySpeaking.

If you're having any specific problems relative to these runtimes for Dragon NaturallySpeaking, then you need to be more specific and clearer on the nature of the problem OS that you're having. In other words, the devil is in the details.

Thanks Chuck,

I have XP sp3 with Intel duo core 2. 2 ram. 300GB hard disc 1/4 used. Desktop computer. Have Knowbrainer software Preferred. I wish I could tell you more. In the files that I downloaded from the the Knowbrainer site, I do not see the file names you specified. I have Norton running as a security check and a free Macafee comes on when I run NatSpeak 11. I don't know how to get rid of it.

I run the setup file that looks like a green flame. The screen says I require the following installations. Visual C+++ 9.0 Runtime and Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 All for Dragon

Press install and get the message that I lack Visual C++

What else should I be telling you?

Thanks,
Ellen Madono

It says it is probably because of a failed or cancelled download. I will try downloading Dragon 11.5 again and get back to you.

I used the DNS11 remover to remove DNS11.5. The files did not disappear, I am not sure that anything was removed. ??

You might want to try running DNS11 Remover again because you should not see any default NaturallySpeaking files on your computer.
