I have DNS version 10 Prefered. It works fine. Is the upgrade to 11.5 worth it? Does it offer more accuracy?

While DNS 11.5 is more accurate than DNS 10-10.1, DNS 11.5 is more resource intensive and is designed specifically for the newer and more powerful processors. Given your system configuration, you would be better off staying with DNS 10.1. While you might find DNS 11.5 more accurate, you will also find that on your particular system you will take a fairly significant performance hit.

For a number of reasons, some of which I cannot discuss publicly, you would be better off staying where you are for the time being and/or unless you upgrade your hardware.

Regrettably, we must also concur with Chuck because of your current computer. It's really time to consider purchasing a new computer and our favorite computer manufacturer is M-Tech. Please note that we are not paid to endorse any company unless you count that Bigfoot expedition we made last summer through Millinocket Maine’s Haynesville woods when the Big Haired Lady mistook grey squirrel for a mountain lion. HOWEVER, if you do decide to upgrade your computer, we are currently offering the NaturallySpeaking Premium 11.5 Upgrade, bundled with our training guide, for $129 until we run out of stock. Our KnowBrainer NaturallySpeaking 11.5 Review includes a 14 page comparison of Ver. 10.1 vs Ver. 11.5.

I am VERY TIMIDLY rejoining the fray on this one!

My office computer works off XP SP3 and is an HP bought in May 2004: in other words eight years old. It says it is a Pentium Dual CPU E2160@1.8GHz, 1.79GHz, 3.49GB RAM. I don't know whether that is much or at all faster than the Celeron in question.

All I can tell you is that I run DNS 11.5 Pro on it very happily.

I defer to Chuck and Lunis in all things computerate - except my own experience: which I can only state.

I know it about time yop upgrade.

The problem I have is that I spend most of my time in China and need a computer that I can repair in China. That means Dell or Thinkpad.

What needs to be upgraded? The RAM? The processor?

Serious computer upgrades are rarely successful but in your case, not an option. Even in situations where an upgrade is possible, it is typically less expensive to buy everything brand-new and under warranty. You'll find our computer spec recommendations when you look up “computer” in the Quick Tips
