I use Dragon Medical 10.1 on my work computer. When I use it at work it works fine. When I remotely access my desktop at work, I get error messages. I use a Plantronics Audio 995H wireless headset to dictate both at work and home. After starting Dragon Medical 10.1 on my work computer from home, I get this series of pop-ups: You are accessing Dragon Medical in a Remote Desk top session. To dictate in a Remote Desktop session you may need to install third-party software. Some audio devices may not work in a Remote Desktop session. The audio driver for the audio device "Plantronics Wireless Audio" has changed. The Audio Setup Wizard has not yet been successfully run for this user. We will give you the opportunity now. Error I checked with DNS technical support and if I understood them correctly, my problem is that my remote desktop connection is coming from somewhere other than my home computer. The medical Dragon program at work needs to use the audio driver from the computer where the remote desktop connection is launched from. In my case when connecting from home, I need to make in Internet connection to a site where the Remote Desktop is launched from. I work for the VA and need to go to what is called VA Access Gateway. There I need to securely logon to the VA Citrix Remote Access which takes me to a site where the remote desktop connection is launched from. Assuming my understanding is correct, is there a way to make the multimedia sound system on either my computer at home or my work computer work for the medical Dragon 10.1 program on my work computer? ------------------------- DNS Medical 10.1, Intel Pent III Xeon-Core 2Duo CPU T6670 / 2190 MHz, 4 Gb, OEM built-in- Intel High Definition Audio, Windows 7 Prof SP1 at home, XP Prof at work |

Quote: Assuming my understanding is correct, is there a way to make the multimedia sound system on either my computer at home or my work computer work for the medical Dragon 10.1 program on my work computer? JEB, Given what you're trying to do there are two things that you need to understand. First, the basic answer to the first part of your question is NO, you can't make the multimedia sound system on your home computer access Dragon NaturallySpeaking on your work computer. If you're attempting to load Dragon and run it from your work computer, then Dragon has to be able to access your soundcard on your work computer. Second, under certain conditions, specifically with regard to Citrix servers and Citrix thin client access to your work computer, it is possible to run Dragon on your work computer using the work computer's sound card. Given your particular situation, it may not be possible to do this. That is, you may have to load and access Dragon from your home computer, but access to applications on your work computer may require that you use the Dragon Medical dictation box and Dragon may not work properly in any remote applications running off your work computer. Nonetheless, there is a help file that you can access that explains what you can and can't do, as well as the system and setup requirements. On either computer, go to the location of the Dragon program files and look in the Help folder for the following help file: dns_admin.chm When you open that particular Help file by double-clicking on it, go to the search option and search on Citrix. You'll find any and all of the information available in the help files associated with Citrix. The bottom line is that if you are unable to access your soundcard on your remote system, then you will not be able to use Dragon running from that system. In addition, although it's possible to do it under the conditions that you will find in the Help files noted above, Nuance no longer supports this actively. That is, if you call Nuance technical support they may or may not assist you in this regard. According to my understanding, you may very well get the Jimmy Carter World War III response "G'night ya' on ya' own". So just be aware that it is possible to do what you want to do under certain conditions, if you're remote connection and network configuration don't meet the requirements, then your unfortunately SOL. Addendum: I am a Vietnam veteran and I work with the number of VA users of Dragon. Be advised that the security of the VA healthcare system may require you to work with your IT people to see if the information above is viable for allowing you to do what you want to do, as well as assist you in doing so. I do know that you won't be able to do it on your own without IT intervention. Chuck Runquist -------------------------

Thank you very much for your time and expertise. I will see what I can find and figure out. VA IT has told me that they won't assist with remote connections. I don't know if they would allow me to transfer the Dragon 10.1 medical practice software to my home computer. If they did, I wonder if it would come out garbled like my DNS Premium 11.0 does. I currently have DNS Premium 11.0 on my computer at home and can use it through the remote desktop but the words frequently come out with capital letters in the wrong place. If a word is capitalized, it is always the 2nd letter that is capitalized and not the 1st. Sometimes there are random capital letters throughout the word or it may be the 1st 3 letters are capitalized. Sometimes it will print the sentence without capital letters but this includes the 1st word. By the time I go through and correct these errors, I could've typed it myself and I'm slow. Of course that is why I use Dragon. It appears that the garbling has to do with Citrix since it was not happening prior to the conversion to Citrix. I again thank you for your assistance and for your service to our country.

1 possible reason for your words are coming out “garbled” is because DNS Premium isn't designed to be used over a network. -------------------------
