I used to have Dragon NaturallySpeaking Preferred 10, then recently upgraded from my Dragon NaturallySpeaking Professional 9 to professional 11.5. Then recently I was getting runtime errors when using Dragon NaturallySpeaking. I noticed in my add/remove programs, Visual C + +9 Runtime for Dragon NaturallySpeaking 9 and Visual C + + Runtime for Dragon NaturallySpeaking 10. I'm guessing I should remove both. I also recently got a runtime error for my Microsoft Office Word 2003, and in my add/remove programs I saw Microsoft visual C + +2005 ATL update, and several versions of Microsoft visual C + +2005 redistributable, and also several versions of Microsoft visual C + +2008 redistributable. Should I remove some? I've only gotten the error message regarding Microsoft Office once and only while using Dragon NaturallySpeaking. incidentally I couldn't find my earlier post about this recent runtime error

Kit, DNS 9.0-9.5 did not install any Visual C++ runtime. DNS 10-10.1 installed Visual C++ 8.0 Runtime for Dragon NaturallySpeaking, and DNS 11-11.5 installs Visual C++ 9.0 Runtime for Dragon NaturallySpeaking. These are the only Visual C++ runtimes installed for Dragon NaturallySpeaking. If you're using DNS 11.5, you can safely remove the Visual C++ 8.0 Runtime for Dragon NaturallySpeaking because it's no longer necessary. You need to keep the Visual C++ 9.0 Runtime for Dragon NaturallySpeaking because it's required for DNS 11-11.5. As to the other Microsoft Visual C++ runtimes, they are installed by other applications and you should not touch them. They're there for other reasons and other applications, and have nothing to do with Dragon NaturallySpeaking.Chuck Runquist -------------------------

It sounds like you may not have removed your previous versions of NaturallySpeaking which may be causing an issue now. We recommend running DNS9.5 Remover and DNS10.1 Remover to remove every trace of DNS 9 and 10 from your computer. We are not certain but this may affect Ver. 11.5 and you may have to perform a Repair of Pro 11.5 after removing the previous applications.

Had problems installing 11.5 so I just reinstalled myDragon NaturallySpeaking 9 professional for now and may shortly reinstall my Dragon NaturallySpeaking preferred 10. I am having a problem even in my Microsoft Office Word 2003 that when I say period at the end of a sentence, I get the word "period" instead, but maybe that will disappear if I reinstall version 10 Re: my 11.5 professional upgrade from professional Dragon NaturallySpeaking 9:I can't presently install my new Dragon NaturallySpeaking professional 11.5 upgrade and my 30-day return guarantee is just past. First I did the 2 removals last recommended just above, and I then tried to repair my 11.5 Dragon NaturallySpeaking. it seemed to hang there. so I tried to remove it and got an error having to do with temporary files and ending in exe.mdmp and appcompat.txt. then I tried to remove Dragon NaturallySpeaking and got the message: problem with Windows installer Pack. program required with this install to complete could not be run . contact your support personnel work or package vendor and gave me further details. action: deactivate Nat Speak. Location:C\Program Filesl\Nuance\1\Program\natspeak.exe.command-deactivate I found all traces of my dns programs had disappeared. system restore couldn't restore to earlier date. so I reinstalled Dragon NaturallySpeaking professional 9 and then tried to reinstall my 11.5 upgrade but got only the dialog box with modify/repair/remove, and it seemed to hang there when I tried "repair" I guess a sure cure is to empty my computer and reinstall everything , which I've done before but I've lost the written instructions and feel less than confident doing that. I'll next contact Dragon NaturallySpeaking in the States, where I bought the 11.5 upgrade. Bye for now |

Installing the Pro 11 upgrade over Pro 9 is not recommended. This is asking for trouble. If you are 1 of our customers, we recommend following the pictorial step-by-step outline in our complimentary blue KnowBrainer Installation/Training Guide which includes instructions on completely removing Ver. 9 and installing the upgrade as a full copy.
At this point, you might consider cleaning out your system by running DNS9.5 Remover, DNS10.1 Remover (only if you installed a Ver. 10 product) and DNS11 Remover so that you can reinstall DNS Pro fresh. Note that you might also have a problem with your DVD reader not being able to keep up with the installation. As a precaution, you might consider copying the contents of Pro 11.5 to a desktop folder and double clicking the setup.exe with the green flame to install NaturallySpeaking. By copying your disk to the desktop, you will know if Windows has a problem reading any of the files and you'll make it considerably easier to install Pro 11. Note: If you are using Windows 7, you should also disable the UAC. This information is also covered in our training guide. -------------------------

all is well. I found out I had free technical support from nuance.com for 90 days after purchasing the 11.5 professional. Since the last error message said I should check with the vendor, I tried that. The nuance.com technician didn't think it important to remove the visual C + + for my Dragon NaturallySpeaking 10, but you're suggesting I might do that made sense, so I removed it after I used the removal tool the nuance technician provided .(It was still there in my add/remove programs.) I also used my free malwarebytes anti-malware software recently and found 7 malwares. it's heaven how well this 11.5 is accurately dictating. Thanks so much for your help. ^_^ |

Kit, Sometimes removing the Visual C++ 8.0 Runtime for Dragon NaturallySpeaking (version 10) doesn't make any difference, but then again sometimes it does despite what Nuance technical support might say. It still basically a good idea to remove any application or runtime that isn't in use or isn't necessary. The only caveat is being careful that you know what you're doing. All of the runtimes for Dragon specifically reference Dragon. Any other Visual C++ runtimes are associated with other apps and great care should be used when removing any of these. This won't be a problem in future releases. However, the DNS 10 remove utility (Dragon10remover.exe) or the equivalent for DNS 11-11.5, does not remove the Visual C++ 8.0 or 9.0 Runtimes or Dragon NaturallySpeaking depending upon the version installed. That is a separate Microsoft install and must be removed by itself via the Add or Remove Programs (Windows XP) or Programs and Features (Windows Vista and/or Windows 7). Technically, even though it's a part of the Dragon install, Dragon only calls the VCRuntime modules and they are not included in the uninstall or the remove utility. That's why you still see it even after uninstalling Dragon or running the Dragon remove utility.
