i used to be able to say "click <name>" and if that name appeared in my Google chrome bookmarks bar at the top of the window -- then Dragon NaturallySpeaking 10.1 would choose that website and  click it, and that window would go to that website....

Now does not happen.  I checked my settings in Dragon NaturallySpeaking -- and I cannot discern any differences.  Maybe there was a change in chrome?

anybody know?

thanks in advance.

Google Chrome is not SAPI 5 compliant (Active Assessable) and is 1 of the reasons why, like Safari, Opera and Firefox, we don't recommend it for hands-free use. Only browsers that utilize the Internet Explorer speech engine, like Ace Explorer feature Active Accessibility which is the ability to use voice recognition to click links and menus. We have never been able to click on any Google Chrome menu by saying click <menu name>.

well lunis, I could say "click" <name> and if the name appeared on the bookmarks toolbar on Google chrome -- it would work.  Now it doesn't.

just to make you happy -- I downloaded Ace Explorer & new voice commands won't work for it either.

I must have reset/changed something in Dragon ....

I can say "open Microsoft Word 2010" or or "open Google chrome" and that command works...

ideas on what I should try to check ON???

Because we have to work as efficiently as possible, we only use applications that support Active Accessibility and Full Text Control. From what we can see in Google Chrome, there are simply no menus to click other than the +You - Search - Images etc… which appear to be flash and cannot work with NaturallySpeaking. You can always resort to saying press alternate foxtrot to open the menu but you will have very little control. The only option we see is moving down the menu and even then, you have to pass through the somewhat clumsy Edit and Zoom menus. If you memorize the hotkeys you can say something like press control f but if you are viewing the drop-down menu, even those commands won't work. Obviously the developers of Google Chrome haven't the slightest interest in speech recognition. However, if this functionality is important, you could easily automate Google Chrome with a Third-party Command utility. If we were going to voice automate Google Chrome in KnowBrainer, we wouldn't use the built-in shortcuts like Ctrl+f to deploy the Find utility. We would make the commands slightly longer by combining Alt+f & f so that the command would work from within or outside the pull down menu. The indirect bulletproof approach would allow you to display all possible commands before deploying them. Unfortunately this option is only available to end-users working with the Preferred/Premium to Pro 11.5 Upgrade or a third-party command utility.

Although Ace Explorer doesn't include NaturallySpeaking specific commands, if you are displaying the traditional
File Edit View etc. menus, you should have Active Accessibility meaning that you should be able to say click File. What we really like about Ace Explorer is Full Text Control (Select-&-Say) which you do not have with Google Chrome and that's precisely why we don't use it. Most of our browser work is within Internet Explorer because NaturallySpeaking fully supports it but we additionally use Ace Explorer part of the time because like Google Chrome, it's light. If we were not using NaturallySpeaking, we would prefer Google Chrome as our light browser (think DragonPad vs Microsoft Word) and Firefox as our heavy-duty browser because we use speech commands for everything.

As far as launching Microsoft Word or Google Chrome is concerned, that isn't relative to your loss of Active Accessibility. All that means is that NaturallySpeaking is working properly at cataloging start menu items. You will probably find numerous applications that you can launch but not necessarily operate via speech recognition. Did you know that Microsoft Paint is not only fully Active Assessable but includes Full Text Control? We find it unfortunate that so many software manufacturers think they don't need to ask us what we would like. Considering that Google developed their own speech engine, they should know better than to ignore SAPI 5 compliance which is quite literally a slap in the face; especially to those with physical disabilities. This would probably be a nice area for the US government to step in because the issue of Full Text Control and Active Accessibility could be taken care of quite literally overnight for most applications.

Unfortunately, the previous information won't help your current problem. We don't know why you have suddenly lost Active Accessibility but you might consider performing a Repair of DNS to see if that helps.
