Allan,

Do you mean the Windows Taskbar or are you referring to the system tray (systray) to the left of the system clock at the right of the Windows Taskbar?

There's a difference. Dragon appears in the Windows Taskbar when you display the DragonBar. The microphone icon (green red or yellow) displays in the system tray when you have the DragonBar set to icon only mode. As long as you have Dragon set one way or the other, you can always click on the Green flame at the far left of the DragonBar to change the DragonBar display modes, or you can right-click on the microphone in the systray to do the same by going to the Tools menu, Dragon Options dialog, View tab and make the appropriate changes to those settings.

On the other hand, if you're getting neither the DragonBar nor the microphone icon in the systray displaying at all, that you may need to do a Repair of DNS. However, try re-setting the view options in the Dragon Options dialog first.

The system tray microphone icon for Dragon can be displayed all the time whether you use the Dragon bar or not.  You are probably running Windows 7 and all you need to do is click on the small upward pointing expansion arrow just to the left of the system tray icons.  (System tray as described by Chuck above).

If you then click on customise you will find the Dragon icon and you need to set it to "show icon and notifications" to show it in the system tray all the time.

If you're not running Windows 7 then Chuck may have already pointed you to the solution.

Chuck,

Interesting. I'm getting a related problem, in that the microphone icon has suddenly disappeared from the Windows 7 system tray, seemingly never to reappear.

Although I can still call up the DragonBar by voice, and display it in Docked to Top or Docked to Bottom mode, using the Tray Icon Only command still fails to produce the microphone icon in the system tray. (And now, having just attempted by voice to switch to Tray Icon Only Mode, I'm suddenly unable to display the DragonBar in any form!)

For what it's worth (!) having got annoyed with Firefox's DNS 12 failings, I'm using IE9. And that, far too frequently, manages to freeze – possibly some interaction with DNS 12 here?

Back to the AWOL microphone icon. Something is obviously amiss , but before attempting a repair job I'd appreciate any advice you might be able to offer.

John C,

Click the up arrow on Taskbar, bottom right. Then click Customize. Go to the Dragon microphone icon and use drop-down box to choose Show icon and notifications, then click OK.

MDH,
Many thanks for that advice. As it happens, I couldn't find any up arrow on the Taskbar - presumably because it was set on default to 'show all icons and notifications'. (Although that setting wasn't working, given that the microphone icon didn't show)

However, a subsequent reboot brought it back, thankfully. Not sure how any of that happened. But I've re-customised the taskbar to make sure that the microphone icon is now set to show at all times.
