I use a desktop computer in my office---my main computer and as well a laptop in rooms where I do hearings.

Of course I am changing things all the time.  New commands, macros etc.

I was wonder if just exporting my user file from the main to the laptop was the best option or if  voice recognition is best trained on indviidual computers.

Any thoughts?

Oops! forgot to say I am using 11.5 Professional.

Easiest method is to keep your user profile on a USB flash drive, it takes a little longer to save the profile but otherwise performance is not really affected.

If you're using completely different microphones & soundcards then it's probably not a good idea and you should use individual profiles on each machine.  If you use a USB soundpod and same microphone it works fine.  Your commands and macros are all kept in one file within your user profile so you can easily copy that between profiles, see location below, you can also import and export commands via the Command Browser.  You can also export your custom words and phrases or complete vocabulary depending on which version of DNS you're using.  (Via the Vocabulary Menu)

C:\ProgramData\Nuance\NaturallySpeaking11\Users\\Current\MyCmds.dat

You can access the folder directly for any user profile using the following command/macro:

Sub Main
 'scripts by www.pcbyvoice.com
 Dim eng As New DgnEngineControl
 location = eng.SpeakerDirectory & eng.Speaker & "\Current"
 ShellExecute location
End Sub

Just adding to Lindsay's usual excellent advice… most new computers now include USB 3 ports. If you utilize a USB 3 flash drive you can cut down the time it takes to save your user profile from 2+ minutes to about 12 seconds. Opening your user profile from a USB 2 flash drive is relatively quick but saving your profile on a USB 2 flash drive takes forever.
