I'm really new to DNS but have noticed some erratic behavior when trying to execute certain commands especially those related to Windows Explorer. At this point I have given up on using menu commands.
Often what will happen when I say "click file"is that DNS will cause the file selection on the menu to "flash", then execute some other totally unrelated command such as open another window, close it Dragon Sidebar, start some other random program, etc.
It does not seem to matter whether I am using Internet Explorer, Windows Explorer, MS Word, MS Excel, or MS Outlook.

I realize that I don't have the best microphone and sound card for speech recognition, however in many of these cases, DNS recognizes the correct command as shown in the yellow information box.
Is it possible I'm still doing something wrong? Do I have something set up improperly? Is there anything else I can do?
Thanks
John

This behavior appears to be associated with dual displays. As long as I'm working on the primary display I don't seem to have any problems. However I do most of my work on the secondary display which is a larger unit and leave e-mail, system utilities, Dragon NaturallySpeaking and shortcuts on the primary display to avoid cluttering up the larger display. So, apparently, when I try to activate menus on the secondary display, the resulting command seems to get mapped to something on the primary display.

Thanks
John

John,

Unfortunately, Dragon NaturallySpeaking does not support, at least not directly, multiple monitors by itself. There are a number of users on this forum that use multiple monitors, and for Lunis' benefit I note in your KnowBrainer profile that you are not using KnowBrainer, who do use two or more monitors and who may be able to supply you with suggestions as to how to deal with this issue. As for myself, I use VoicePower, which currently supports up to three monitors. Although I have KnowBrainer 2011, I do not use it for multiple monitor support. Just pointing that out because I don't use anything else.

Thanks Chuck
I'm only about two weeks and using speech recognition to run my computer so I'm relatively new to all this. My company does a lot of CAD work in a couple of our employees including myself are starting to feel the effects of conditions like carpal tunnel. One of my assigned tasks is to write a design manual for the company and using speech recognition, I am able to continue working on the project albeit at a somewhat slower pace (still faster than not being able to work). Most of our CAD guys/gals have multiple monitors, so having a solution for that problem is important to us.
I would be very interested in knowing who uses speech recognition in association with CAD work and how successful they are at performing those functions.

I will be looking at Voice Power as a possible option. I really appreciate your input.
Thanks
John

John,

Just putting the luddite solution out there: have you given any thought to rearranging your physical workspace so that your primary monitor is the big one? That would solve the problem, if not in a particularly elegant manner. If you want elegant, do take a look at VoicePower. In addition to multiple monitor support, you'd be gaining a lot of exclusive, robust features. Take a look at the "desktop control" demo video, and the screen grid needs to be seen to be believed.

I might try that. It sounds like a good first step. Thanks

Welcome to the World’s Most Popular Speech Recognition Forum

The VoicePower utility is the only application we know of that supports multiple monitor mouse positions. We utilize a lot of custom mouse positions, in our job, which can be added to KnowBrainer 2011 or the Preferred/Premium to Pro 11.5 Upgrade by making the mouse positions Windows specific within an application. This will allow you to instantly click any position in any Window on any monitor BUT it would require additionally purchasing 1 of the 3 previously mentioned options which are all hyperlinked.

Lunis
thanks for taking the time to respond.
I don't think an upgrade to DNS Pro will get me where I need to go especially with the CAD systems that we use.
I will be looking seriously at Voice Power and KnowBrainer.
As I said to Chuck a couple of minutes ago, I'm really new to speech recognition.
I'm very grateful for your help and for the work you are doing.

Thanks
John

PS I have responded to these posts using entirely DNS 11.5 with a couple of (maybe five) mouse clicks. I'm proud myself.
