At this point in time, the manual and automatic activations don't work, and I only have two more times to access Dragon Naturally Speaking 9.5. I do have the correct registration number, but this was not effective in trying to activate. Does anyone have suggestions for someone in a situation like this? |

On a somewhat related note, I'm seeing the activation dialogue on my previously installed (and previously activated!) copy of DNS 11 Pro, which I've been using since its release and until the release of Dragon 11.5. I've been using 11.5 since its release, and the activation message appeared unexpectedly just two days ago. My first thought was that Nuance had reset something on their licensing server, but if that were the case we'd probably see widespread reports of that issue here. The automatic activation function appears to work and it lets me open my profiles, but then I get asked for an activation the next time I launch the software. I'll let you know if I discover the cause of or solution to this problem. ------------------------- Eric Wright At work: DNS 12 Pro. Eric, have you been able to launch Pro 11.5 more than 5 times? The reason we ask is because you are limited to 5 uses before activation is required. If you are being prompted to activate after 5 uses, you probably have a registry issue which unfortunately will likely require the following sledgehammer approach (because we don't know how to properly edit the registry):
1. Move or copy your user profile to the desktop 2. Uninstall Pro 11.5 to preserve an activation 3. Use DNS11 Remover to remove the remaining traces of NaturallySpeaking from your computer; most importantly the registry 4. Move your user profile back to its original location which is ~ C:\ProgramData\Nuance\NaturallySpeaking11\Users\(your username) 5. Reinstall NaturallySpeaking and follow the remaining prompts -------------------------

Lunis, a registry issue is the most likely culprit here. That would explain the frequent corruption of my profiles (after years of steady usage, I've lost 3 in the last few weeks), and the fact that my computer is asking me to run CHKDSK every time I boot it up. All signs are pointing to yours truly going on a shopping spree sometime soon. I'm down to 3 activations on 11.5 Pro and I'm afraid to let it get down to zero, but I might go ahead and do just that. Both you and Nuance have me on file as customers, so I don't have a whole lot to lose. ------------------------- Eric Wright At work: DNS 12 Pro. A very temporary solution would be to place your computer in hibernation mode rather than closing NaturallySpeaking and your computer down completely. Although we try to reboot our computer once a week, we frequently let it run a couple of weeks, hibernating in the evening, before rebooting but it's also not unusual to crash NaturallySpeaking about twice a week so this temporary solution may produce limited results on your system.

Captain, most of the time, when we hear about this problem, it's because the end-user thinks they typed the serial number correctly but didn't. Please keep in mind that Nuance does not use the letter O (oh) to help reduce confusion. The most common serial number mistake is typing an O (oh) in place of a 0 (zero). The 1st part of your serial number will probably look something like A209A-X00-xxxx-xxxx-xx if it's a full box copy or if it's an upgrade, it will look like A289A-X00-xxxx-xxxx-xx. Manual activation is a bit of a pain but in most circumstances, you should be able to click the Activate Automatically button, if you are connected to the Internet.
However, a little more information might be in order. When you attempt to activate your serial number, exactly what happens? Are you receiving a message that the number you're using is incorrect or are you receiving a message that you have exceeded your activation allotment? If you are not receiving any error message, you may need to contact Nuance (407) 241-1822. -------------------------

This same window asks for a product activation key "from the web page," which I don't have. Is this the same as the registration number? When I opened DNS this morning and just selected Activate Later, I was told I had one more activation left. |

You are attempting to perform a Manual Activation which is notably more difficult than the Activate Automatically option. Our 1st recommendation, if the option is still available, is to click the Activate Automatically button. Unfortunately, if NaturallySpeaking thinks that you have made a change to your system, i.e. new video card, hard drive etc., the Manual Activation will be your only option.
It sounds like you haven't clicked the Generate Activation Key button while connected to the Internet. You'll find a more detailed step-by-step on the Manual Activation process when you look up “Manual Activation” in the NaturallySpeaking Quick Tips (at the top of this page) but if that doesn't work, you will need to contact Nuance (407) 241-1822. Note that although your attachment was very helpful, we removed it because you were publicly displaying your serial number which might not be a good idea; even if it is Ver. 9. -------------------------

Luck smiled at me this morning. After being asked to activate DNS, I chose Activate Automatically. I didn't even have to obtain a key from activation.scansoft.com/us, and DNS opened. I appreciate all the suggestions, which would probably cost an arm and a leg at other websites. |
