Periods keep randomly showing up as I dictate. (The word following each period, is automatically capitalized.) There doesn't seem to be any pattern, although I did notice that two times the word following the unwanted period was "We". Thanks for your ideas on how I can fix this. |

I occasionally have the same problem. Some of the time I believe it is caused by exhaling heavily into the microphone or taking a loud deep breath. Sometimes I don't think it is caused by these issues. But the one thing I can offer is to maybe move the microphone a little bit further away from the corner of your mouth. Or just be conscious of breathing or exhaling too loudly. This doesn't always fix the problem entirely but a lot of the time it does alleviate a large portion of it. |

Hi all, first make sure that you don't have auto punctuation enabled in the Options. Then, look up "him him him" in the KnowBrainer Quick Tips at the top of this page since this issue may be related. If neither of them solves the case, I'd suggest a new user profile. Skip initial training and try it out. If the issue disappears, you can still run General training and set up the profile properly. Adding unwanted characters or words is usually an audio issue. In some cases, defective audio may affect your acoustic model, which is why I'd try a clean profile to see whether the issue persists. Stephan, Your post was most helpful. I followed your instructions and it took care of the problem! What is mysterious to me, however, is that I have used DNS for at least 10 years and have never had this problem before, and it just cropped up on its own! Anyway, it is fixed! Thanks so much for your help.

Pipa, glad I could help. Which bit did actually do the trick? As to an issue coming up unexpectedly: if the issue is indeed audio related, then it might be a mechanical fault, like a damaged cord. Should the issue come up again, it is probably time for a new microphone. If yours is 10 years old, that shouldn't surprise me at all since microphones age just like the rest of us. Stephan, I disabled the auto punctuation and it did the trick! Pretty sure it wasn't microphone related. So… Don't know why it decided to act up during this particular period of time, but anyway I don't have to deal with the right now so I'm happy! Thanks ever so much, Pipa |

I wouldn't worry about fractured microphone cords in this case as Stephan's correct diagnosis, that is checking whether autopunctuation is checked, is normally caused by a registered bug where the autopunctuation switches itself on intermittently.
