I saw it recently but I'm wondering if somebody can point me in the direction of being able to create a new profile without having to retrain all my custom words and phrases? Edit: I exported my current profile to the desktop and then reimported it under a different name but I have the feeling I am just introducing all the same issues in the old user profile. I saw it recently in a post but for the life of me I cannot find it so what I'm trying to achieve is creating a new user profile and importing my custom vocabulary complete with training without having to do such. |

You are probably thinking of this one: http://www.knowbrainer.com/pubforum/index.cfm?page=viewForumTopic&topicId=14027 Rüdiger ------------------------- Well, it's past the point where we can make any changes in the code, but we can still make changes to the Easter Egg! |

Thanks for your reply but that wasn't the one. I believe it was Lunis, Chuck or yourself (that narrows it down) ;-) who went into some depth as to the procedure of importing vocabularies into a new profile but containing pre-existing training negating the necessity to do such. Would you mind breaking down the procedure for me please? Cheers Steve |

I believe it was Lunis, Chuck or yourself (that narrows it down) ;-) who went into some depth as to the procedure of importing vocabularies into a new profile but containing pre-existing training negating the necessity to do such. Would you mind breaking down the procedure for me please? Steve, there are different ways of achieving this, but I will concentrate on just two of them. First, you can always export your custom words, including written forms and spoken forms, if there are such, and import them into a new profile; second, since you have the professional version, you may also import the entire vocabulary that you currently have, into a new profile. So let me explain how to do this, and what the differences are. In order to export the custom words in version 11-11.5, launch Dragon and load your current profile, on the Dragon bar, click "Vocabulary - Export custom word and phrase list ...", which will take you to a save file dialog where you have to enter a name and choose a path. Accordingly, a TXT file will be saved under that name and in the path you have chosen which will contain all your custom words with spoken forms if you have added them, each on a line of its own. Make sure you keep the file somewhere easily for you to locate, such as on the desktop, or on a thumb stick, for instance. In order to have them readily available in a new profile, create a new profile from scratch, run the general training or just skip it, and re-import the list previously exported by going the same route, except for using "Import list of words or phrases" under the "Vocabulary" menu, once the profile has been created. Please note that this process will export and import the items referred to above (custom words, those that carry a red cross in the vocabulary editor, with any spoken forms), but it will not transfer pronunciations you may have trained, or word properties in case you have changed them, and this is not only true for custom words, but also for the entire vocabulary. Therefore, if you have changed the vocabulary to some extent by training words in the vocabulary editor, or modifying word properties, and also adding alternate written forms, they would be lost and you would have to redo them when using this method. However, like I said, when exporting and importing the entire vocabulary, which is really large indeed and comes in a non-readable format (for humans anyway), as opposed to the TXT file containing the custom words after exporting them, everything you have added will be transferred: custom words, as per method one, but also pronunciations you have added or altered by training the words, word properties you have changed, and alternate written forms you have added. In order to do this (method two), launch Dragon and load your current profile, but this time go to "Vocabulary - Manage Vocabularies ..." which is available for you since you have the professional version. In the next screen, you current topic (vocabulary) will be highlighted (presumably "General - Large" ), make sure it is before you click on "Export...", and you will be taken to a save file dialog just as described in method one. This time, however, five different files will be created, so you had better create a new folder for them thus keeping them together, but that's not necessary also. However, don't touch those files, like I said, they are not made for the human to look at, although doing so wouldn't also leave you blinded. In order to import the previously exported entire vocabulary, create a new profile from scratch, as in method one, but this time go to "Vocabulary - Manage Vocabularies... - Import ...", to reverse the process described above, and locate the path you have chosen for export, or maybe moved the files to afterwards. Don't worry about there being five different files, because the dialog will point to the one needed in here automatically. Also, you will be prompted to overwrite the new General Large vocabulary which has been created when creating the new profile, that's just because there is no way of merging vocabularies, but don't worry about that also and just choose to overwrite. Once this is done, you will be back to where you where, vocabulary wise, with a new profile from scratch. Personally, I would use both methods and compare the results with each other to determine which one is better for you in the long run. Sorry for this lengthy posting, by the way. Rüdiger
