Hello, Is there a way to change the font size in the SideBar in Dragon 11? The Nuance people are driving me crazy with their small font sizes!!!!! The Spell Window Font size issue is still not resolved. There is no way we can increase the font size to aid our clients with low vision. Has anyone heard anything about a resolution about that problem.
Thanks Linda

Yes, the Sidebar font size can be changed, but not easily. It requires modifications to the files that are in (Windows 7 64-bit) C:\Program Files (x86)\Nuance\NaturallySpeaking11\Help\enx . "enx" is for US English and may be different for other languages. Then there are directories for the different versions of Dragon. Then all have both a "sample_cmds" and a "tips" folder, each of which has a "scripts" folder then a dragon.css file. The dragon.css files need to be modified to change font sizes. If you are familiar with .css files it is straightforward to change the font sizes. Many who maintain web sites would be familiar with these files. I've done this so that I know it can be done, but have not actually deployed it to other customers. One other non-obvious note about the Sidebar -- if you right-click within it, you'll get an option to Print. That can be useful in some cases to quickly produce sample commands.

Will changing the Dragon.CSS file within the tips folder change the font size of the Results Box?

If I were you and I could be bothered I would take a backup copy of the Help folder and then try changing the font sizes in the different CSS stylesheets to see what effects what, ignore the folders with the versions of DNS that you don't have and then reload after changes. You can just read the cascading stylesheets (CSS) as text files. Keep a log and then you can tell us all about it Darren :-) seriously would be very useful.

I'd be quite surprised if changing the font sizes in the .css files for the Sidebar changed anything outside of the sidebar. Each .css file has several font sizes that can be manipulated, and in my experiments I've not seen changes affect anything outside of the sidebar. The Ease of Use font size changes within Windows do not seem to affect the font size in the Sidebar. ------------------------- Larry Allen |

Can't say I have looked very closely Larry but presumably then you are saying that all those CSS sheets under the Help directory are purely for the Dragon sidebar?
For most dialogues used in DNS they are held in the dd10enx.dll file in the programs folder and for example you can change the size and font of the spelling window to a degree if you go to dialogue 2004 (you can open them in visual studio or something similar). We did it to make the spelling window larger last year but its kind of reverse engineering so I don't think nuance would be too happy if we started changing all the dialogues. Quote: presumably then you are saying that all those CSS sheets under the Help directory are purely for the Dragon sidebar? I also haven't looked at it, but it's likely so because obviously the sidebar comes as just another HTML element, as for instance a help file, and it is not a resource controlled the way that the dialog boxes are. So what about the Dragon tutorial overview as well as the other tutorial pages?
I am referring to the DLL for the dialogues reference to spelling window. Lindsay ------------------------- |

Ironically, the DNS 11.5 help file still says that changing the tooltip system font and size will affect the Results Box. Is this a bug that is on their list to fix?

The Dragon help file is talking about the font size and appearance of Tooltip type windows under Windows itself. For example with Windows 7:

Yes I was looking this morning and they are all over the place, the ones in the Help subfolders mentioned being predominantly for the sidebar as Larry mentioned.
Having used Dragon for years I never knew until Darren mentioned it about being able to change the tooltip font and size for the whole of Windows which incorporates the results box. Microsoft have put the settings under Window Colour which is a bit less than intuitive imho. Lindsay ------------------------- |

While you have been using Dragon for years, I must have been reading the forums for years:

Having been using a font size of 16 for the tooltips for the last 20 min it has some pretty annoying attributes like changing the size of the text on the status bar of Internet Explorer to 16 as well. I think I will go back to the default :-)
You should turn your encyclopaedic knowledge of the forums into a searchable database, either that or we should all read the help files a bit more carefully. Lindsay ------------------------- |

Changing the tooltip font size does, indeed, work for changing the Results Box. And, it is definitely annoying! :-)
