I need to install an SSD in a new (second hand ) laptop without an optical drive. I've tried my old desktop SSD in the laptop partly to test the old SSD which I've been having problems with and partly to see if it'll fit in the laptop and whether win 7 will run ok. The problem is that the software recognised a new computer and asked to be activated - which I didn't.

Despite not activating one particular piece of software whilst the old SSD was in my laptop, I'm being told that when the old SSD is back in my desktop there are only a limited number of uses left of the software concerned (Nuance Dragon Naturally Speaking)!

I'm afraid that if I activate or try to activate again then I may run up against a limit. Also, I've ordered a new SSD for the laptop and I was thinking of installing all my programs on a new SSD via my desktop and then transferring the SSD to the laptop, but how will this affect my allowed max number of installs for my software?

Can anyone give me some advice on this ?
cheers

If you want to be able to use NaturallySpeaking more than 5 times you will have no choice but to activate it. However, if you uninstall NaturallySpeaking, while connected to the Internet, you gain back an activation credit. In other words if you're going to install a new SSD, simply uninstall NaturallySpeaking before installing the new SSD and you won't lose an activation.

According to your profile, your still using Preferred 8 but we assume you are actually asking about Ver. 11 which, other than Medical, includes 5 activations.

hitman,

I would suggest that you carefully read all the information on activation at the following link: Nuance activations

Nuance tracks activations by both the serial number and the machine fingerprint. If the machine fingerprint changes, then you are asked to reactivate. If you're not careful you will lose an activation. There is a way to manually reset your activations when this happens. However, you need to carefully read the information at the above link in order to thoroughly understand how to do that.
