All, I created a new user profile on February 17, shortly after my previous one had become corrupted. That user profile had been performing fine, opening every day since February 17. (I've been launching in Dragon using the traditional manner, using the desktop icon or the shortcut on the start menu. I haven't been using KnowBrainer to launch it, or opening it automatically via a shortcut in my Startup folder). Today that profile won't open. If I attempt to open it from the "Open User Profile" screen, I get the prompt stating that my user profile needs to be upgraded because it was created with an old version of NaturallySpeaking. Then it invites me to run the Profile Upgrade Wizard. This just isn't right. The profile was created using NaturallySpeaking 11.5, and it had opened for me for over 2 weeks before (seemingly arbitrarily) displaying this message today. My other user profiles (also created in 11.5) open fine, and new user profiles open fine. Restarting NaturallySpeaking and my computer don't solve this problem. Has anyone seen this behavior before? Any thoughts as to what might have caused it? My first guess is that since I'm on an enterprise machine over which I have no control, maybe some hotfix that was pushed to us is causing bizarre behavior. It's news to me. We are not certain but we suspect that this is either a registry issue or your user profile is corrupted and DNS is posting the wrong error message. You could just follow the NaturallySpeaking prompts and see what happens but on a side note… We got tired of our user files corrupting on an average of every 9 - 16 weeks so we switched to using a solid-state (no moving parts) drive. When we 1st adopted this practice, solid-state drives hadn't been invented but Flash Drives existed and we stored our user profile on a flash drive beginning with DNS Ver. 7 and never suffered a corrupted user profile since making the change. We can't guarantee this will work for you but we simply haven't had very good luck with spinning hard drives and DNS user profiles.

You could just follow the NaturallySpeaking prompts and see what happens... You might be on to something here, Lunis. After running the upgrade wizard, I get the dialog that says the wizard was cancelled with one or more failures. The exact text of the details log: Quote: Speaker upgrade started at 3/8/2012 4:07:17 PM Upgrading 1 user profile Upgrading user profile "Eric 2-17-12" ERROR: None of the topics is upgradable 0 out of 1 user profiles were successfully upgraded Upgrade completed at 3/8/2012 4:07:18 PM ------------------------------------------ This makes sense because the profiles weren't created in an earlier version of NaturallySpeaking. It might be as simple as Dragon displaying the wrong error message for a corrupted profile. It's strange, but it's possible. ------------------------- Eric Wright At work: DNS 12 Pro.
