I remember in the prior version that there was a thread with a recommendation on how to stop the recognition process if it seemed to be taking forever.  The recommendation, I believe, was to click on the teardrop DNS icon where you could select to halt the recognition process.  Either something has changed or I have totally forgotten what that process was, but the teardrop does not seem to be offering any functionality to discontinue the recognition process.

Every so often DNS goes into a loop where it seems to be examining every possible word combination to recognize my utterance and that's where I would like to halt that process.  Nothing that I have been able to do so far, except get mad at the computer, seems to work.  Someone needs to refresh my memory.

You may or may not like the following solution but our preference is to put a checkmark in Anchor and Show Preliminary Results under the Results Box which you will find at the bottom of the DNS options View tab. We just never warmed up to the little spinning dancing box and prefer the legacy yellow Results Box approach pinned to the upper left corner of the screen. We also changed the Auto-Hide delay to 1 second because as lovely as the Results Box is, we only want to see it for 1 second after our dictation hits the page.

If you also like the traditional Results Box view, all you have to do is mouse click on the little grey box, within the Results Box, with a red circle and slash to prevent NaturallySpeaking from submitting the rest of your dictation, such as when you forget to turn off the microphone before answering the phone which we are all but certain only happens to us

Thanks Lunis.  I have copied your recommendations into my options.  Hopefully if DNS goes into never-never land again this will allow me to curtail its process.

P.S. Please tell your friends at Nuance that they have programmed a very smart piece of software.  It knows exactly when I am in a hurry (so it starts slowing down) and it knows when I am getting mad at its actions.  That's when it starts going into never-never land as if to say to me - "I'll show this idiot..."

A right-click on the teardrop icon brings up a short menu, one of the options is to cancel recognition.

Unfortunately, that is not apparent by right clicking on my teardrop icon.

Bill,

You can also double-click the results display to close it.

Have you had a look in the help section on the Dragon bar?

Once "Help" is selected from the Dragon bar, select "Help Topics," then click the "Index" pane and type in "Results Display" into the keyword window at the top.

Cheers
