Since I started using medical practice edition version 11 last year (upgrading from 10.1)(and how come 11.5 isn't out for MPE yet?) I have had ongoing inability to use DragonPad to dictate into.  After using that for a variable length of time, it invariably crashes NS, and I have to restart. It leaves NS running but unresponsive and I have to go into task manager to end the naturallyspeaking.exe process before I can restart.

If I use the dictation box, I have no troubles with the program crashing.

When this first happened I had troubles reinstalling and thought there was a problem with the installation disc.  The vendor was kind enough to send me a copy however even though it installed fine, Dragonpad continues to crash NS.  I tried corresponding with Nuance,  however they said that I had to go through the vendor because they don't provide support for medical practice addition (?)  however the vendor seemed to have no way of determining what might be the problem. Nuance support did respond initially saying I should reinstall or get new discs when I described the problem however when that failed to correct it, they then said that they wouldn't provide any further help! This was within the first few weeks of receiving the program, as I wanted to get help within the first couple of months when it was supposed to be provided.

There seemed to be an issue with the visual C runtime has some error messages came up with that when this first started to happen.  I went through installing various versions of visual C runtime however that didn't seem to fix the problem.  Removing and reinstalling DMPE eventually seemed to correct the visual C  runtime problem however DragonPad continued to crash.

I would prefer to use DragonPad because I can do dictation correction within it, which I cannot do with the dictation box.  Unfortunately I can't run the program consistently without it crashing if I use DragonPad.  It takes anywhere from a few hours to 2 days but it will consistently crash, and I have had this happen on 2 different computers.

I wondered if anyone else had run into this issue.  I don't have the actual error messages (which I had originally sent to Nuance) because I am writing this at home and this was happening on my office computer but I could retrieve them if helpful.

I have been using naturallyspeaking since the beta for version 1 and I had never run into this problem on any of the previous versions.

Maybe Mark (MDH) can contribute to this. He's has all kinds of problems with DMPE 11. So much that he went back to Version 10 as others have as well.

Rag and ramsden,

Unfortunately, I do not have any useful contribution regarding DMPE crashing with DragonPad. I never use DragonPad, but use NotePad a great deal. DMPE never crashed for me using NotePad. However, Rag is correct that I pulled my hair out in frustration trying to get DMPE to behave for 3-4 months. I finally through the towel in and went back to DNS Medical v. 10.1 and have been in heaven (again) ever since. If and when they finally patch DMPE, I will try it again at that time, not before, despite the money shelled out for DMPE. DNS Medical is far superior to DMPE, and DMPE is just not worth the aggravation.

NotePad is a possibility but it may be too limited, depending on its use. Have you tried WordPad? WordPad is nearly identical to DragonPad and even includes multiple undo capability which is available in KnowBrainer as Undo 1 - 20, but not DragonPad. If NaturallySpeaking crashes while running WordPad, you could eliminate DragonPad from the list of possible ailments.

As far as why DragonPad is crashing, we don't have a solid answer other than that behavior is highly unusual and we suspect there is an instability issue with your computer. NaturallySpeaking eats up a lot of system resources.

Thanks for the comments.  I'll try Wordpad and let you know how that works. I assumed the problem was DragonPad and some component of the C++ runtime. I've considered a fresh re-install of everything on my computer, but that's a daunting task.

I agree that DNS Med 10.1 seemed less troublesome. Wonder why it's taking so long for 11.5 to be available?
