When writing e-mail, the text control checkmark turns from Green to White when tried to dictate the body of an e-mail. There is no problem dictating the subject line that as soon I click on the body block, no dictation is picked up and I have to use the Dictation Box. I have used the same set up for several years and this never occurred before Monday. Is there a setting that should be changed?

Stan,

you may have temporarily lost Microsoft Outlook Add-ins.

Within Microsoft Outlook, to find the Add-ins>
Tools > Trust Center > Add-ins

Check for Disabled Add-ins.

(There should be) "No Disabled Application Add-ins" showing under the heading "Disabled Application Add-ins"

For example: "Microsoft VBA for Outlook Add-in" and the "NatSpeak Outlook Add-in" should be in the "Active Application Add-Ins" grouping.  If they are in the "Inactive Application Add-ins" grouping or the "Disabled Application Add-ins" grouping, they must be put back into the "Active Application Add-ins."

To do this:

1. The Microsoft VBA for Outlook Add-in and the NatSpeak Outlook Add-in are essential for the proper functioning of DNS in Microsoft Outlook, at least in both Outlook 2007 and Outlook 2010.  Under some conditions, specifically when running in Windows XP using Outlook 2007 or Outlook 2010, if these add-ins are not enabled and active, you can't dictate into an Outlook e-mail message. Without them, you lose functionality.

2. In the Outlook - Tools > Trust Center > Add-ins, you need to go to the Manage option at the bottom of the Add-ins page, drop down the list and select Disabled Items.  Highlight the Microsoft VBA for Outlook Add-in and the NatSpeak Outlook Add-in (if they are there) then click on the Enable button. Then, go back to the Outlook Add-ins section and check to see whether or not they has been enabled in the Active Application Add-Ins. If they are in the Inactive Application Add-Ins, then you need to go back to the Manage drop-down list and select COM Add-ins, place a checkmark in the checkbox to the left of the Microsoft VBA for Outlook Add-in and the NatSpeak Outlook Add-in and then click OK.

3. Go back again and make sure that they are listed under the Active Application Add-ins. If they are, then you're done.  You may need to close Microsoft Outlook and re-open it.  There's no need to relaunch Windows and/or DNS etc. etc.  However, if they are not activated after all of the above, then you may need to reinstall Microsoft Office. However, one other option is that when you do a reinstall of Microsoft Office, select the Modify option and go in and make sure that the VBA options are selected. I don't recall off the top of my head whether it is one entry for all of Office or whether you have to check each individual application. This often occurs I found when you use the Custom install of Microsoft office and failed to select the VBA scripting options. If you use the complete install without making any modifications, then the Microsoft VBA for Outlook Add-in is automatically added. In your case, if it fails to activate, then it could very well be simply a corrupted registry entry and a reinstall of Microsoft Office should fix it.

Regardless, if you are able to re-enable the Microsoft VBA for Outlook Add-in and the NatSpeak Outlook Add-in so that they are active, then that's all you need to do. You don't need to do anymore.  However, you might want to close Microsoft Outlook and restart it just to check and make sure that these add-ins are enabled after you shut down and relaunch Microsoft Outlook.

Cheers

Trying to think of a very witty way to say thank you but nothing appropriate comes to mind which rhymes with "feet". So-to say it simply--thank you very much. You saved me in the middle of a huge project and I am very, very appreciative. Stan Winikoff

Stan,

In addition to Tiger's suggestions, also make sure that the NatSpeak Outlook AddIn (dgnoutlook.dll for Microsoft Outlook 32-bit versions, or dgnoutlook_x64.dll if you're using Microsoft Word 2010 64-bit) is also listed under the "Active Application Add-Ins". Regardless of whether or not you require the Microsoft VBA for Outlook AddIn, the NatSpeak Outlook AddIn must be active in order to dictate into a Microsoft e-mail message body field.

My first guess is that Outlook has ejected the NatSpeak Outlook AddIn.
