Hi,

Every time I switch off the microphone in DNS Pro 11.5, it repeats my command “Microphone is switching off”

How can I stop that?

Thanks

If you mean by switching off the microphone you are switching it off by voice and then the narrator says "Microphone off," then you can turn it off as so.

Say, "Switch to Dragon bar" (or go to the Dragon bar manually) > Tools > Options > Playback/Text-to-speech - then on the "Text-to-speech-attributes-Volume" slider bar, turn it down to 0 (or right to the very end of the left-hand of the scale).  Don't forget to click apply and OK afterwards.

Now when you say "Microphone off," the microphone will turn off without the narrator saying anything.  (In silence).

Be aware, by selecting this option I believe, this turns the narrator off for other functions as well.  I'm not positive on that but if you can do without the narrator, then you'll be fine.

If there is, another way to accomplish this while keeping the narrator on, then I'm sure someone else will comment.

Cheers

It is actually a feature of the KnowBrainer command "Microphone Off".  Rather than switching off your text to speech playback (as Andy suggests) you can just remove the offending line of code using the KnowBrainer Command Browser.  So just click on "KBPro" and while it is displaying all the global commands just find the command "Microphone Off".  Then remove the line:

TTSPlayString "microphone off"

Silly me,

I didn't realise it was a KnowBrainer command.

I actually like the Big Haired Lady saying 'Microphone Off' after I have said it.  She keeps me company looking over me and comforts me when she repeats the command as though she is confirming it for me.

It feels as though there is someone out there looking after me, even if it is British English Jane and she's big, fat and hairy.

(How sad am I).  :-(

Cheers

Thanks everyone

Lunis, ‘Edit Command’ worked but “no-caps microphone off” didn’t bring Microphone Off command.

Lindsay, thanks it worked very well. In fact, I’m using it with PCByVoice SpeechStart

Tiger Feet, unlike you I don’t like the Big Haired Lady unless she was blond….

KnowBrainer is the culprit but Lindsay nailed it. If you prefer, you can optionally remove the checkmark from Active to deactivate this KnowBrainer command when you open the KnowBrainer Command Browser to edit this command. You can verbally open the KnowBrainer Command Browser by saying Edit Command followed by saying the word “no-caps microphone off”, to highlight the Microphone Off command. The reason for saying “no-caps” or “Cap” to select a KnowBrainer command is to avoid accidental deployment of the command. Additionally note that when editing or deactivating KnowBrainer commands, your changes will not take start effect until you close and re-launch KnowBrainer.

The reason why we added the verbal response is because we are not always facing our computer screen when we need to turn off the microphone. Whenever anyone enters our office, we say Microphone Off so that as the Big Haired Lady enters the room, she will hear the computer say “microphone off” which lets her know that she can speak freely without interrupting my dictation; until I take their head off for interrupting my work. This is particularly handy when using a desktop or wireless microphone but also handy when walking away from your computer.

It should also be noted that NaturallySpeaking includes a hotkey for turning the microphone off. The default hotkey is the {Plus} Key on your extended keyboard but you also have the option of changing it. We have a personal preference for the {Pause} Key.
