Some days it seems the office air conditioner/fan/whatever is pretty loud. I will get the "him him him him..." problem, and/or the notification that I am getting bad audio quality. The microphone sound check fails. Is there an adjustment I can make on the Samson receiver, or is there some other way I can use Dragon on these days? In general, my recognition has been pretty good -------------------------

If the air conditioner is causing electronic interference, moving the Airline 77 further away from the source or possibly a different outlet may help but if the problem is environmental noise, there's no setting that's going to help. Your only option is to turn off the air conditioner or move the Airline 77 microphone to a different location.

I do not know what the configuration of your office is. However, if the fan or the air conditioner is behind you or to your right you will have more of a problem than if it is in front of you or to your left. I have successfully used the airline 77 with a very noisy high-speed fan in my office but you must place yourself relative to the moving air rather carefully. It is also necessary to make sure the airflow is not bouncing off a large monitor or your wall and into your microphone. I also have under those circumstances reduced the volume on the base station somewhat and then spoken somewhat louder. I am in a cubicle. ( I am spaced a bit a way from other workers) The noise is from the office ventilation system.

Run check microphone, when you do the volume check and the quality check speak a fair bet louder than you normally do, this will have the result of setting the level lower than normal for the microphone. Then when you dictate just dictate at the normal volume. This procedure has had a lot of success for me in the past and with a couple of clients. Lindsay www.pcbyvoice.com ------------------------- |

This question leads to one of my own. I was about to recommend the Samson 77 for someone who works in a fairly noisy environment -- people talking and walking near her office, which is not fully enclosed and has high, hard ceilings. Now I am wondering whether I should recommend something else that provides more/better noise cancellation. In terms of noise cancellation in the kind of environment I describe, what are the best options? |

It is still noisy today but seems to be working much better. Maybe Dragon needed a restart (although I'm sure I tried that). Anyways, I've generally been pretty happy with my Samson.. (easy to say now that I'm not furious... hmmm... )-------------------------

I think the problem may actually have been my new bluetooth mouse. I had Dragon working this morning, and then this afternoon tried to hook up my mouse again and hit the problem immediately. The weird thing was that I unplugged the receiver, turned off the mouse, and still had the problem. ( I think I even restarted Dragon ) After restarting the computer I was OK again. -------------------------
