I am continually following the on-screen prompts to go through the updating process but, even though it says that the updating Wizard has finished successfully I am always prompted later to download and install the same update. Also, all written indicators indicate that I am still using version 11 and not version 11.5. I would appreciate any advice on the matter.

wheelstb,

Did you click "install" instead of "save" and download it to your hard drive somewhere?  If you did, you may have the upgrade executable already on your hard drive somewhere.  Try looking in "Downloads."  Also, try rebooting your computer.

There has been much advice in recent threads on this subject and how to install the upgrade correctly.  This is really what you should have done.  In the words of Lindsay and Rüdiger, take on the advice below before installing the upgrade.

Firstly, check for updates on the Dragon bar in "Help."  This should bring up the software manager that should find the update for you.  Once the download becomes available, make sure to choose "Download" instead of "Install" First.  Download it to your hard drive, somewhere safe where you can find it easily such as your desktop.  If you have inadvertently, already downloaded it, then it is a matter of finding it first.

Before installing the update, make sure Dragon is closed down and no longer in resident memory, or remnants thereof.  Do this by opening the task manager and searching for the natspeak.exe process to be no longer there.

Before installing the update, make sure you stop all NaturallySpeaking add-ons such as KnowBrainer, VoicePower, ShowNumbersPlus, SpeechStart etc.

Once you have performed the above, then, install the upgrade.  It should not take longer than 3 min to install the patch.  Once installed, you can check that it has installed by going to the Dragon bar and clicking "Help" and then "About NaturallySpeaking."

The splash screen should then say that you have Version 11.50.100.92 SP1

Here is the thread with the poignant instructions I have copied above.  Pay particular attention to the very first post by Lindsay and the third post by Rüdiger.  There is extra advice by Lindsay in his post if the install goes wrong and does not install properly the first time.  I advise you to read it before doing anything else.

I hope this helps.

You can prevent future Nuance nagging and spamming by disabling the Nuance SSEreg via the following:

1. Click Windows Start button
2. Type MSconfig and press the {Enter} Key
3. Click the Startup tab
4. Remove the checkmark from SSEreg and click the OK button

If you are unable to install the patch, you can optionally order a clean full copy Backup DVD

Well my Dragon says I have the Premium Edition

11.50.100.92 SP1 like it should say and every time I start Dragon it wants to upgrade to 11.5!

I checked with MSconfig and the startup tab doesn't have SSEreg listed as one of the things that can be unchecked!

any ideas??

JT,

Another option is to locate and click on Administrative Settings... in the Tools menu on the DragonBar, follow the instructions and remove the checkmark from "Automatically check for updates on startup".

This should prevent you from being prompted for updates every time you start DNS.

Hi there,

Tried to follow the SIMPLE install instructions for downloading 11.5 from inside Dragon 11.0, but my copy simply does not have those options!

I also noted the instructions on removing  SSEreg  and it occurs to me that I might have already done so and thus had not received any information as to updates previously.

However, at this stage, I simply cannot download and install the upgrade inside the package and cannot find any alternative way to do so by a simple download from Nuance.

I have even weakened sufficiently in my desire to get this, that I have signed up for Twitter in order to finally make some direct contact with Nuance and would you believe cannot figure out how to actually post a message on their Twitter site :-{

me2,

If you click on the Help in the DragonBar and you do not have an option for "Check for Updates", then you may have one of the following as noted in the Nuance technotes for upgrading to DNS 11.5:

This update is not applicable for any special releases of Dragon, which may be supplied by a Nuance partner/hardware manufacturer.

You can read the full update technote at the following link:

http://nuance.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/6213

In addition, following an audit of Nuance expenses over the last several years, upper-level management decided to cease providing free updates as was the case in DNS 9.5 and 10.1. Therefore, you will not find it available anywhere on Nuance's website. Nuance will no longer be offering free upgrades via this method. From this point forward, upgrades will only be available via the "Check for Updates" the the DragonBar | Help.
