Hi Everybody,

I have  "Global Dictation Engine Sink" Flag on my computer and have had it for sumtime.

I have been talking to Nuance here in the UK since last year and still do not have any answers. What makes it worse

I had the problem on my laptop since November last year and in desperation bought a new computer and a new Dragon 11 Premium.

I used it very sucessfuly until February and the same thing happened.

I saw some discussions on you forum sometime ago but can't find any resolutions.

 Computer - Acer Z5700.

Processor - Intel Core i3 3GB

Hard Drive - 500 GB.

In my business Dragon is used by 15 people and I am rather desperate.

Please find attached Dragon Log.

Regards

LeonB

                                Welcome to the KnowBrainer Forums

Do you see this error everywhere or only in a specific application such as a text box that is supported by JavaScript?

According to your log file, it would appear that NaturallySpeaking is timing out which prevents it from dropping the dictation into your text box or document.

Another possibility is your 3 Gb of RAM which is shaving it a little too close with the Windows 7 64-bit computer. We recommend a minimum of 4 Gb of RAM but prefer 6.

Hi Lunis,

Many thanks for your reply.

It happens at start up, aftter Dragon loaded and initialized(which takes a very long time, it did not before).

As soon as you start dictating it freezes and then you receive the "Dictation Sink" flag.

This actually sounds more like a computer related problem such as bad RAM and might not show up with other applications that are significantly less processor intensive (like every other application you run). You might want to consider a computer tech.

Maybe, however I do not understand that I have exactly the same problem on my HP laptop

32bit with 3GB of ram. The Acer is brand new and I only use it for Dragon.

Leon,

have you tried a new user profile? Are you using the same user profile on both computers? Try setting up a new profile and skip training. This should only take five minutes, but give an indication whether the installation or the profile is the culprit.  I also suggest trying a different microphone and USB port.

RAM may be on the low side, and Windows 7 64-bit is wasted on a 3 GB RAM machine, but I can't see any connection to a Global Dictation Engine Sink.

While we're at it:

- the name of your user profile contains any number of blank spaces. Name your new user profile something more compact.

- Reinstall MS Outlook.

Stephan

Hi Stephan,

Thanks for the reply.

I have created new profiles on both machines, as requested by Nuance.

There are no gaps in the names of the user profiles.

I will reinstall Outlook and see if that will help.

With regards the RAM, is it possible that this could have an effect?. The HP is a 32bit machine with 3 Gb ram.

Regards

Hi Leon,

I repeat: to the best of my knowledge RAM doesn't affect the Global Dictation Engine Sink error.

BTW have you done a repair install of Dragon?

Stephan

Hi Stehan

Yes I did. Nuance accessed my computer remotely and they did, it worked once

and there after did the same "Global sink" error.

Maybe I should just mention something to you.

When I start Dragon it will go through the process of starting up but "initializing" takes a long time.

When I then start dictating it freezes.

After a while the "Global Sink" flag comes up and if you close the flag and leave the computer for about five minutes

it will transcribe a sentance and exactly 1 minute later the next sentence and so on.

 Regards

LeonB
