Up until last week , my version of DNS Preferred 8.1 was working very well indeed , on my home computer( 2GHz with 1000MB of RAM).However after the microphone lead was accidentally pulled hard it does not recognize my voice .Microphone is an Andrea NC 61 I think the Andrea USB adapter , which I have been told acts as a sound card may have been damaged although plugging the 2 X 3mm microphone and other jack leads directly into the computer makes no difference. If I go to DNS and run a sound volume /quality check it fails scoring 6-8 . At work I also have DNS v 8.1 with an older Dell Optimax but with 1000Mb RAM and recognition is noticable worse with a Andrea NC 60, (perhaps because it does not have a USB converter?  I wonder is it now time to invest in a better microphone and would be grateful for aany advice from users who have had similar problems. Thank you dock32, Newcastle upon Tyne, UK |

dock32, > after the microphone lead was accidentally pulled hard it does not recognize my voice .Microphone is an Andrea NC 61
The microphone you are using should be thought of as a starter or backup microphone in case of a dire emergency. If you are doing serious dictation, you should be thankful it is time to get a new microphone. We have sold over 11,000 Andrea USB sound pods the last 11 years and I believe there have only been to failures. It is highly unlikely the Andrea USB soundcard is the problem. It is most likely the microphone cable had shorted out. Click Here to go to our revised product comparison page. You will be able to view a comparison of microphones by wearing and usage category. Make sure to click through to the page for a microphone and read our evaluation and description which is based on testing not manufacturers marketing blurbs. Although we routinely ship to the UK and internationally every day, in the UK you want to contact Graham Hendry at IT speaking as he can supply almost every microphone we sell. If you decide on a microphone that he does not have, just order it right on our website and it will ship promptly.
