Hi,

I am a new user of Dragon NaturallySpeaking 9, Std.

I upgraded to IE 7 when I bought my current computer as part of the initial "Windows Update", and before installing the numerous software applications I use.

So, it is impractical for me to rollback Windows to a restore point prior to IE 7.

I can uninstall IE 7 / leaving IE 6, but understand that this does no good.

Is there any detailed information on what part (library?) introduced by IE 7 causes the problem? And any manual solutions for solving the problems introduced?

Symptoms I'm trying to resolve include:

* Dragon intermittently ignores complete sentences

* Dragon intermittently recognizes commands (eg. select that) but dictates them, rather than performing them

I have recently upgraded from version 9.10 to 9.50. This seems to have reduced the above problems by about 50%, but the problems still happen regularly. It seems that after rebooting, I don't notice these problems at all for about 30 minutes. Then they start creeping in, getting more and more common.

I have also noticed that overtyping in Word 2007 does not work at all in version 9.5. If I select a series of words with the mouse, then start dictating, the yellow results box shows my dictation, but they do not get typed in Word. Pressing delete first, then dictating does work.

And, working in web forms in IE 7 is hopeless. But pasting fromthe dictationd pad works fine.

 Regards,

Peter

In our opinion, there is little you can do until a patch for IE 7 becomes available.  Most of the problems you are describing can be blamed on IE 7 and it is probably too late for you to restore your computer to a time before IE 7 but rolling back to IE 6 helped us.  It's not a complete solution but IE 6 seems to work a little better than IE 7 in our office.

Lunis is accurate that a full answer to your issue won't likely be available until a patch is issued by Nuance/Microsoft. The "part" causing some of the problems is "ctfmon.exe". Search this forum's previous posts that describe the problems it causes, and how to "manually" disable it. That will solve many of the most frustrating problems you are experiencing, but it requires a rollback to IE 6. Unfortunately, you will not likely be able to become able to use IE 7 until the "patch" arrives on the scene, if ever. Being in a similar situation as you are, I have resigned myself to living without IE 7, in order to have a more fully functioning DNS 9.10 without the hassle factors caused by the IE 7 installation.

Good luck, and keep watching this forum for future advancements found by members much more technologically capable than I ever will be.

Using DNS 9.10 SP-1 preferred on windows XP professional SP2 on laptop w/2Gb ram 2.13 GHz 75 GB, Plantronics DSP headset/mic.

Hi,

I'm writing an update to this thread for the benefit of anybody else going through this problem. I'm afraid my experiences don't offer much hope...

I have done as much as possible to resolve the IE 7 related problems without reinstalling the operating system -- details below. I have seen little, if any, improvement to the problems I was experiencing.

But strangely I have noticed one very significant problem that seems to be new.

I use Microsoft Office 2007. I often have Outlook and Word open at the same time. And in this case, when I am dictating into Microsoft Outlook 2007, I find that quite regularly several words in a sentence will be missing. If I switch to Microsoft Word, the missing words will invariably have been inserted at the cursor in the Word document.

It is possible that this problem was present before. I regularly had the problem of dictated words not being entered into e-mails/documents. But I hadn't been aware of the missing words being entered into other applications.

My workaround to the problems is to use the Dictation Box from NaturallySpeaking's tools menu. I have a hotkey set up to open the dictation box

(Interestingly, when dictating the previous sentence, the phrase "open the dictation box" was not typed- instead of the dictation box was opened. This will be useful for me!)

I find that the problems with dictation and commands being ignored is significantly decreased (I would guess by 90%) compared to dictating directly into MS Office applications.

But there are obvious disadvantages also - be extra steps of opening the dictation box, transferring text back, back of formatting ability, impractical to use in tables or spreadsheets, etc.

Details of the changes I have made:

I have rolled back Internet Explorer 7and applied the registry patch from know-brainer. I have also it rolled back Windows Media Player version 11, as this was mentioned in a different thread as another (possible) culprit of some of these problems.

I checked to see if CTFmon.exe was running in task manager - it wasn't. I checked/confirmed that speech recognition was not installed in control panel, regional and language options.  And I made sure that it was not set to start in the  startup section of the registry.  The instructions for disabling ctfmon.exe / Microsoft speech recognition all seem to relate to office XP/2003. I did not find any instructions that relate to Office 2007. And the Office 2007 setup program did not seem to have any options relating to speech recognition - I went fairly exhaustively through all of the options.  I'm not sure if this means that office 2007 does not include speech recognition, or whether it is just not possible to disable it in the setup program.

Regards,

Peter
