After serious problems, I reinstalled DNS 11 Premium. It works for about 1 minute, then it stops. When I click the microphone from on to off, it won't go back on again. Sometimes the green nuance icon just stays frozen on.

I would recommend shutting down all of your other software and then do yet another (repair) reinstall and if this doesn't work you may have to completely remove DNS 11 from your computer and do a complete reinstall that way.

While DNS 11 is installing, walk away and let it do it's thing don't try to do anything else on your computer while it is processing all of your data and installing.

I did a software repair install because I was having a few problems and things got considerably worse, but when I get another repair install everything smoothed out and is operating very very well now with no complaints.

Thanks. I will try that again. But i did a complete uninstall/reinstall.  Also oddly, the Dragon sidebar opens up completely blank.  I have noticed that the problem seems to get worse when I open up Firefox, but I haven't had that problem in the past. Also, I looked at my task manager, and it said I was using 42 percent of my CPU. Maybe that's too high.

I should also mention that I get this attempting to recover from low system resources message sometimes.

Consumer grade microphones, like the Logitech USB, may not be as accurate in Ver. 11 as they were in Ver. 10 because Ver. 11 is more sensitive and includes a higher 22.5 kHz sampling rate but this doesn't explain why NaturallySpeaking stops working after 1 min.

Your computer specs look fine but you might consider substituting a backup microphone such as the starter microphone that Nuance included in your original DNS box. Unfortunately, we suspect that you may have a computer issue which could range from a bad housekeeping utility to damaged RAM. You might want to consider taking your computer to a computer specialist.

Chris,

I can't believe that you're using Windows Vista with 1 GB of RAM as your KnowBrainer profile indicates. If you are, that I can tell you exactly why DNS 11 is doing exactly what it's doing. Your simply working with too little RAM.

What is your actual hardware configuration (CPU make, model, speed, total amount of RAM, current operating system, etc.). My guess is that the moment that you open DNS 11 with any other application and then try to open a third application, Windows is simply swapping out to your pagefile so that it can free up RAM for what DNS has to do. Also, DNS 11 is eating up a minimum of 300 to 500 MB of RAM. That leaves you very little RAM for running anything else.

Uninstalling and reinstalling DNS 11 isn't going to solve that problem.

Chuck, everything you said makes perfect sense and was our 1st assessment but when we looked up Chris's profile, he appears to be using 6 Gb of RAM on an i5 system running Windows 7. That's why we're wondering about the possibility of damaged or possibly mismatched RAM.

I had had outdated info on the Vista/1 gb. Sorry. I have also had some other computer problems, so that may be the issue.

Much thanks.

Chris,

Given the new information, I would concur with Lunis. I would check your RAM and make sure that there are no problems with the RAM chips that you currently have installed, as well as making sure that there are no mismatches. With the Core™ i processors, all RAM must be paired (dual channel memory) and be running at the same clock speed. On laptops, you only have two RAM slots. Always make sure that your largest RAM chip(s) are installed in channel 0 and that the speed on all of your chips is the same (i.e., same spec).
