When I say, "Start Internet Explorer", instead of opening the web browser, I get a Notepad window with the following: L À FŸ 2ØïEÉZG‘o2ZÉ à`‘zÄ l PàOÐ ê:i¢Ø +00? /C:\ J 1 ‰9¶™ PROGRA~1 2 ï¾,9&˜‰9¶™ P r o g r a m F i l e s R 1 ˆ9R¸ INTERN~1 : ï¾-9X‰9}— I n t e r n e t E x p l o r e r L 2 l 1 ` IEXPLORE.EXE 0 ï¾-9X‰9}— I E X P L O R E . I've checked to make sure that the icons are labeled correctly. I have DNS Preferred 10, KB rev F, running on an HP with an Intel dual core 1.2 GHz with 2Gb memory. Checked to see if a similar topic was created previously, but couldn't find anything. Thanks in advance. |

Does Internet Explorer appear under your Start menu. If so, NaturallySpeaking has probably lost its links to the Start menu. Removing Internet Explorer from the Start menu and replacing it may fix the problem but if all else fails, you can put shortcut to Internet Explorer on your desktop, name it anything you want and say start (whatever you named it) to launch it.

pdberger, Although Lunis's suggestion might be a source of the problem, I would look at whether or not there is a shortcut on the desktop for Internet Explorer. I don't think that DNS has lost its link. I think it's simply misinterpreting what you're saying or the link that it is attempting to use has become corrupted somehow. Try saying "open" instead of "start" and see if the same problem occurs. What is happening is that iexplorer.exe is being opened in notepad. That's why you get what appears to be garbage. In other words, is opening up the hexadecimal code for Internet Explorer's executable file. Also, when this happens what do you see when you say "view recognition history"? That might give you a hint as to what DNS thinks you said. If it is correct, then something screwy is going on. Nevertheless, try saying "open Internet explorer" and see if that works. The "start" command doesn't always function exactly the same way that the "open" command does under some conditions. Regardless, we probably lead a little bit more detail as to whether or not there is a shortcut for Internet Explorer on your desktop, whether there's an entry in your Start menu, and what the Properties dialog for each says when you right-click on it and select Properties. Interestingly, a similar thing happened to me immediately after installing knowbrainer. When I give the command "start Internet Explorer" I get a pop-up error message from DNS: "File 'IEXPLORER' not found." When I look in the recognition history I see that the command has been recognized as "start Internet Explorer". If I say "open Internet Explorer" then it works.

Mark, We all appreciate your desire to help and provide additional information. However, the topic is almost 3 years old (June 2009). Problem was resolved many years ago. Chuck Runquist -------------------------

The problem is the way NaturallySpeaking works with certain applications. Unfortunately the playing field is forever being changed which means KnowBrainer has to play catch-up. Fortunately, the next free release of KnowBrainer 2012 will include the fix but if you would like to initiate your own fix rather than wait, See following:
1. Say Edit Global Command 2. Wait for KnowBrainer to verbally “name” prompt 3. Say start less than to select the Start command 4. Say our click Edit and change your highlighted text to what you see in the following picture Note that you will have the close and re-launch KnowBrainer before the changes take effect.

You are correct. We never thought to test the command by closing Internet Explorer before deploying it. If Internet Explorer is already open, it only opens up 1 occurrence but we have just verified your double Internet Explorer results when Internet Explorer is not open.
You will need to once again, edit your KnowBrainer global Start <AppList> command but this time, completely remove the entire following line (argument) from the command: if _arg1 = "Internet Folder" then HeardWord "open, "Internet Explorer" You will also need to open your AppList command and remove the following phrase: Internet Explorer Thank you for bringing this up as it will give us a chance to fix this problem before releasing KnowBrainer 2012. -------------------------
