Hi,

The restart Dragon command for speech start is not working for some reason. All other speech start commands seem to be working absolutely fine. I have tried decreasing the recognition accuracy needed by incrementally by lot but it made no difference.

When I checked the recognition history it is always recognised as a command in the form of "RESTART Dragon" so may be the case of the words makes a difference but I do not know how to change how that is recognised?

I have tried deleting both of the folders below and restarting speechstart where you have to then retrain the speech start profile which has always worked for any problems with speech start in the past but this time it makes no difference.

C:\Users\"user_name"\AppData\Local\CommandRobot

C:\Users\"user_name"\AppData\Local\pcbyvoice

Any ideas of what's going on and what to try next?

can you share the fix? I regularly have "SpeechStart+ restart Dragon" stop working.

Who is the developer? I would really like this fixed as well.

Consistently when I start speechstart the "microphone on/off" command works as well as the "Restart Dragon". However at some point - which could be five minutes or maybe two hours later, the "microphone on" command ceases to work as well as "Restart Dragon" that is, Speechstart loses the ability to work independently of Dragon.

Utilising the Mic on/off function was a major reason for purchasing speech start.

Lindsay Adams (Monkey8) is the SpeechStart+ developer and programmer. This isn't something that needs fixing. You simply have to use this utility correctly. Nearly everyone has to lower their Confidence score.


1. Right click on the hidden SpeechStart+ microphone and select Options 

2. Click the Advanced button

3. Lower your Confidence score

Thanks Lunis,  but the confidence level is not the issue. I had it set to whatever you are using (about 87%) but in moving it down in increments to 80%, the problem is not resolved at any conference level.

What else can I try?

The only other option we can think of is to wait for the next release which shouldn't be a problem but our NDA prevents us from leaking any more information.

Hi Lunis,
I believe I have solved the issue that I was experiencing. I was using my Sennheiser pro MB 1 headset connected to the laptop through the generic Bluetooth connection. Annoyed with some of the inexplicable events in WebEx and Teams meetings when I simply couldn't find my microphone in the audio devices or I could hear everyone else speaking but they couldn't hear me (and no I wasn't on mute), I decided to try out using the Bluetooth dongle that actually came with the headset and connected it directly into the USB port of the laptop. The computer then looks to pair with the dongle and frees up the headset to pair with another device (the phone).

While I only did this 24 hours ago, unlike any other time that I have owned speech start, its performance has been flawless in that time and I also had no hangups or dropouts of Dragon in that time either (also a 1st).

Using the Bluetooth dongle to connect to my headset has completely transformed the whole experience of using Dragon/Knowbrainer/speechstart

I suffered similar problems:  SpeechStart+ stops responding regularly.

 

Like you,  one of the big reasons I purchased SpeechStart+ was "Microphone On". However, I have much less need of that now that I have a watchband that has a bluetooth button that sends Media_Play_Pause}, which AHK maps to a Dragon HotKey to turn to mic on/off.  (I know that will not work for many people.)

 

I suppose that "Restart Dragon"  is now the main reason that I continue to run SpeechStart+. However, "Restart Dragon" fails often, I suspect more than 2/3rds of the time I want to use it.  I have a regular escalation strategy:  (1) do something else for a few minutes [*]; (2) try Restart Dragon a few times - often does not work the first time; (3) resort to the old Dragon-Killer.bat script; (4) reboot. Oftentimes such problems re-occur; I frequently step back to old saved user profiles, usually im,porting more recently saved custom words (and applying deletions of standard words that I find annoying), and frequently start again from scratch.

 

*: Yes,minutes: I continue to suffer stalls of >1 minute, often 5 minutes, once I let it run to 40 minutes just to see if it terminated - and it did!  Stalls of 1 minute plus a few seconds are so common that I suspect that there is a 1 minute timeout somewhere.

I will note that the SpeechStart+ developer offered to remote access my PC when such a problem was occurring.  At the time I was quite surec that would violate my employer's computer policies.

I've been having the same problem also, I have been talking with Lindsay and he still has to get back onto my computer try something else to get it to work correctly. I think it has to do with 1 of the Windows updates because the new Windows 10 1903 was just updated and it messed up my knowbrainer from starting correctly when Windows is restarted. It will start loading and once he gets to the point of trying to load DPI it will crash going to the taskbar, the icon will be there along with DPI's icon. I have to manually right-click on it and close it then restart it and it will load everything correctly. So now with that latest update I have 2 problems! Thank you Microsoft

Just for the record: I created a new profile today. Imported saved/generated vocabulary. Found several places where Dragon crashed. The first three times Dragon crashed SpeechStart+ RESTART DRAGON worked fine to recover; the fourth time even speechstart+ RESTART DRAGON did not work. Reboot :-(
