is there a way to rename programs so that when you use the switch to command you can reduce the amount of words you have to say? For instance, instead of saying switch to Mozilla Firefox I would like to say switch to Fox.

I just installed Univoice and I am so impressed with the increase in accuracy I thought I could spend some time trying to learn purple basic. at the beginning of the verbal basic manual, it refers to the KnowBrainer training guide. I have a "KnowBrainer" Word document and a PDF file. Is that the same thing?

Actually, I got to this section "MACRO TOOLS for KnowBrainer Advanced-Scripting
Note: falling VerbalBasic commands are exclusive to the KnowBrainer Command Browser", and I realized I am not ready for this.

1.   Should that read "the following..." instead of "falling"?

2.  I just want to automate a few sequences like open a few files or websites.  Is there some sort of Macro Recorder that will serve my purposes?

Also, what is Select-&-Say and what does it mean?

Thank you

As far as I am aware, if you click on the Start button and then select the All Programs button you can then highlight the specific program group such as for example Mozilla Firefox which will in turn show the program shortcut.  Highlight the shortcut and right click on it.  You can then select Rename and change the name to whatever you wish.

Alternatively if you are using KB2006, you can edit the Start<Applist> Command

If this doesn't work you can always change it back

Jomark’s suggestion will work very well but a simpler solution might be to place a shortcut to various programs on your desktop and shorten the name to something simple like “Fox”.  However, be aware that you may wind up with a second copy of your browser running which isn't what you're after.  Typically when you want to switch to a window, that is already open, you use the switch to <name of window> command BUT you don't have to read the entire window name.  For example: We keep the Netscape browser open to the ScanSoft (Nuance) forum all the time.  The title of the window is ScanSoft-Dragon NaturallySpeaking-support-community-Netscape.  Can you imagine having to say switch to ScanSoft-Dragon NaturallySpeaking-support-community-Netscape?  We didn't think so ;-).  All you have to do is say switch to ScanSoft (assuming no other windows are open that have ScanSoft in the name).  We are not using Firefox but we suspect that you could say something like switch to Mozilla

You are correct.  It was a typo.  It should now say Note: The following VerbalBasic commands are designed to work in the KnowBrainer Command Browser but we also support the NaturallySpeaking Command Browser (Professional and higher).  Some command names have been altered slightly to work in the NaturallySpeaking Command Browser.

hello Lunis,

notice that “hello”is not capitalize.  Just a gentle reminder to keep you working on revisions in the new KnowBrainer and Univoice.

my question is both my “switch to <open application >” and “task <number >” appear in the Dictation Box but are not recognized.  Any ideas?  It is a very useful command as you well know.

All the best.

The Dictation Box is designed to link to whatever application you are in when you launch it but you should still be able to utilize the 2 commands you mentioned.  They work fine on our Vista office computer.

Fortunately we have a few workarounds for the non-capitalization problem.  Although we only occasionally experience the non-capitalization after punctuation problem it can be a major time wasting nuisance so we've come up with the following:

1.     Whenever possible, try to finish your dictation with a punctuation mark, which is natural for most end users.  If you need to re-dictate a portion in the middle of your previous paragraph say Resume to return the cursor to the end of the current paragraph and force capitalization onto the first dictated word.  This way it won't matter whether NaturallySpeaking is working right or not and you will have a new fast 2 syllable command at your disposal.  If you wish to begin a new paragraph substitute Start Paragraph which is already available in your command arsenal.

2.     If you decide to use Select-&-Say or Spell That correction and you see the correct choice in the available drop-down list substitute Resume < 1 – 9 > for NaturallySpeaking’s choose < 1 – 9 > .

thanks, Lunis,

I forgot all about the resume command. I guess I'll just have to live without the switch to or task commands which I really like. maybe when the new versions come out it will be fixed, I don't know.

Jim

Good afternoon, Lutis,

Hope you don't respond to this until tomorrow which means you're not working like I am today.  Sundays are for rest.  But no rest for the binary challenged.

You wrote the above paragraph.  Does that mean you are flummoxed by my problem.

All the best.  Boy does dragon worked good in the Dictation Box.  I might just use it for everything.  Should I be able to bold in it?

Keep up the good work.  As always, I appreciate your efforts.

Jim

The Dictation Box is nothing more than a simple text editor; much like Notepad.  It is not capable of accepting any type of formatting like bold.

I am curious about the Resume command.  I looked in the KnowBrainer manual, and the only command listed was "resume with <text>."

When I said "resume," it simply printed the word resume.  It does not seem to work as a command.

 Perhaps time doing something wrong.

Thank you.

The Resume <1-10> command will be introduced with KnowBrainer REV F which has not been released yet.  However we have referenced this command in the past and posted the code on this forum.  You can manually add this command to your current version of KnowBrainer.

How is this command different than the "Pick" command?  The arguments look pretty close.

The only difference is the very last line of the command where you see HeardWord "\Cap".  This line of code forces the first dictated word to start with a capital letter.
