I am using Microsoft Word (office 2003 SP2) inwindows XP. I have Word set to automatically capitalize the first word sentences. When I type manually, it behaves as desired. However, when dictating in DNS (preferred, version 9) and Know-brainer, automatic capitalization does not work. Does anyone understand this and have a fix? This is a NaturallySpeaking bug. If you dictate without correcting you shouldn't suffer from the problem but the second you make a correction or move the cursor (by voice or manually) as soon as you move your cursor back to the end of the paragraph you will lose capitalization. There have been a number of theories about why this occurs but it looks like the NaturallySpeaking developers fixed one problem but created another. You'll find this problem discussed in detail here but the only reasonable solution for DNS Preferred users is to create a KnowBrainer 2006 command called Resume which will move the cursor back to the end of the current paragraph and force the first dictated word to begin with a capital letter. You will find a step-by-step on creating this command in KnowBrainer by searching for “Resume” in this forum. We will also include this command in the next revision of KnowBrainer.

Word's auto correction functions work with input directly from the keyboard. NS, however, kind of pastes the text into the document, and it is never seen by the autocorrect function. So none of Word's autocorrect settings have any impact on how NS works. It seems that NS has to hook in properly to Word. The only way I get everything to work right consistantly is to start NS, dictate something into DragonPad, then start Word. No instances of Word can be running (verify with Task Manager) when NS is started, or it will not hook in properly. On rare occassions, things stop working while I am working. In this case, I have to shut down Word and Outlook, make sure all instances of Word have closed, then reopen Word. So bascially, please try: Boot computer -- Start NS -- Dictate into DragonPad -- Start Word and see if it helps. |
