Has anyone experienced a situation where DNS 11 suddenly becomes so poor and also slow/non responsive that it is un usable? Computer (office) is old Dell precision T3400 with 2.33Gz but DNS working absolutely fine last week. Connections ok & Microphone volume and quality Ok . DNS loads ok and as normal but transcribes maybe one word wrongly then nothing at all. Loading different users makes no difference nor does saving user. Closing DNS down and retrying makes no difference either. Any suggestions gratefully received.

best wishes

if I have problems with Dragon after I make sure there's nothing wrong with my microphone, I do a Dragon repair from the programs menu of the Windows control panel. (just for superstitions sake I would do a Windows restart before and after the Dragon repair). Then test using DragonPad only before you try any other applications. if that doesn't work, on top of the Dragon repair, you could then restore a backup of your user file.

dock32,

You might attach a copy of your Dragon log as the information contained in the Dragon log is useful in diagnosing these types of problems.

In addition, what microphone/soundcard are you using?

Thanks for the advice from both of you, and sorry for being so slow in getting back. I had a few days holiday and on return DNS was working fine again. The microphone is old , Andrea NC 61, but no problems with it in the past. Not sure what the sound card is (work computer). I am ashamed to say I don't know how to locate the Dragon log. Didn't know I could do a repair from the programs menu and that is something I will certainly bear in mind.
Best wishes.

dock32,

Click on the start button, go to All Programs, Dragon NaturallySpeaking ##, and you will find one of the options is "show Dragon log" either click on it or say "open show Dragon log"and simply attach it to your response to this post. There is no need to convert it to a text file or change the extension any longer. Also, please don't copy the contents and paste it in your post. Not only is that a waste of space, it isn't necessary. Just attach your file Dragon.log. Will be able to read it just fine.

You don't have to locate the Dragonlog. Just say open show Dragonlog to open the folder that contains a text file by the name of Dragon or Dragon.log (depending whether or not you have opened it in the past). Once you locate the file, attach it to a forum posting. Our Ver. 11.5 Dragonlog is located at C:\Users\Lunis\AppData\Roaming\Nuance\NaturallySpeaking11\Dragon.log

It is no longer necessary to convert your Dragon log to a text file. You should be able to attach it by clicking the Attach File button, clicking the Browse button (to search for the file on your computer) and following the remaining prompts to attach your file.

There seems to be 2 dragon log files but both in the NaturallySpeaking11 folder. Thank you for looking at them.

Dragon9.log
Dragon9.log  (15 KB)
Dragon8.log
Dragon8.log  (590 KB)

Sorry I should have added that I'm using an Andrea NC 61 microphone with an Andrea USB adapter. Not sure what the sound card is. (I do not have administrator rights on this computer)

That Andrea USB adapter is just a fancy name for your half duplex (sound output only) soundcard but that lets us know that you're using a USB soundcard which is good. While your Andrea NC-61 microphone is acceptable it was Andrea Electronics bottom of the barrel microphone; so to speak. The NC-61 was decommissioned about 6 or 7 years ago and replaced with the NC-91 which is the same thing but also tells us that your microphone is quite old.

When NaturallySpeaking has to struggle to understand what you said, it can take up to 4 times longer. We didn't notice anything specific in your Dragon log but considering that the average speech recognition headset microphone only lasts between 3 and 5 years, we wonder if the problem might be with your microphone element becoming corrupted from saliva.

Thanks very much. the cause of the problem sounds horrible, but I will change the microphone. It is reassuring that the Dragon log didn`t show up anything specifically problematic. I think the microphone might have come originally with my original DNS v8. Thank you again for your help it is greatly appreciated.
