KnowBrainer 2011 is a third-party command utility that is designed to add functionality to NaturallySpeaking. For more information on KnowBrainer, click on our What is KnowBrainer PDF file.

The real purpose of this post is to announce KnowBrainer FREE which, as the name implies, is freely available to everyone and has no expiration date. Please note that KnowBrainer FREE, like NaturallySpeaking Essentials, is more of an appetizer to the real deal. KnowBrainer FREE includes 54 cherry picked commands from KnowBrainer 2011. Note that the commercial version of KnowBrainer 2011 includes approximately 11,000 commands, the ability to create Advanced-Scripting commands verbally (via a patented process called VerbalBasic) and a Command Browser that will allow you to add, delete, edit, deactivate, or change the names of all existing commands. A few examples of KnowBrainer FREE “must have” macros include:

Add to Vocabulary – Adds selected text to your vocabulary. If you are tired of saying something like the plant store, followed by Cap that to produce The Plant Store, do it one last time, and say Add to Vocabulary to eliminate having repeat this procedure in the future.

Pick <1to10> - When utilizing Select-&-Say or Spell That correction, if you see the correct word or phrase on the list, you are prompted to say choose 1-10. The problem with this approach is that when utilizing Select-&-Say correction, the cursor is left to the immediate right side of the last corrected word/s. If you substitute Pick for choose, KnowBrainer will additionally move the cursor to the end of the current paragraph (saving a step). Example: Say Pick 3 to select the 3rd choice and move the cursor to the end of the current paragraph.

Continue - Moves the cursor to the end of the current paragraph.

Undo <1to20> - Presses {Ctrl+Z} 1 to 20 times to undo up to 20 changes. Say Undo 3 to undo your last 3 changes in any Application that supports multiple undo like Windows and Microsoft Word.

If you are not currently using KnowBrainer 2006 – 2011 or KnowBrainer 2012 beta click KnowBrainer FREE to download a self executable zip folder which contains the KnowBrainer FREE executable, installation instructions and a list of available commands.

The full version of KnowBrainer will remain free to the physically disabled. If you already have any version of KnowBrainer, do not install KnowBrainer FREE because it is a restricted command set.

If you check your email, you'll find a complementary download and serial number for KnowBrainer 2012 REV D but note that the latest version of KnowBrainer will always be available in our signature tag in each of our posts. As far as KnowBrainer 2011 is concerned, although you don't have to uninstall it, we recommend doing so because it's a waste of space.

Also note that KnowBrainer FREE is no longer with us. We only created it because our previous programmer had having difficulties coming up with a trial version which is what we originally wanted. Fortunately Lindsay Adam (monkey8) came to the rescue and has now taken over the KnowBrainer projects. We are now blaming him for anything that doesn't work

hi Lunis

I installed your free version of knowbrainer and I'm having a few issues.

The installer only lead to an un stuff utility which opened two files onto my desktop. One was a PDF and the other must have been the real program installer. When I use that installer nothing appeared on my desktop but when I browsed to the file location under programs I was able to find the file folder. I clicked the knowbrainer exe, which opened but only yielded a small box with file and help menus and a small blank area which looks like it might receive text. There was no functionality from this dialog box.

Dragon loaded but when I tried any of the commands listed in the PDF none seem to work. I did a restart with the same conclusion.

I'm using Windows 7 on a 64-bit i7 processor.

Please advise

Thanks for a much

It sounds like you have KnowBrainer FREE installed. KnowBrainer FREE is similar to the DragonBar in that when the KnowBrainer FREE Window/bar is open, you should have full access to the commands. Are you perhaps closing the Window after you open it? Try re-launching KnowBrainer FREE without NaturallySpeaking running and note that it will launch both KnowBrainer and NaturallySpeaking. You can always launch KnowBrainer FREE after NaturallySpeaking but you can save steps, in the future, by launching KnowBrainer 1st. Feel free to minimize the KnowBrainer FREE bar and view the list of available KnowBrainer commands by double-clicking the included PDF document which lists the available commands.

Try dictating a few words, into any document, pausing for the usual 1 or 2 seconds and then saying Delete All and let us know if all of your text disappears.

Hi-

I start KnowBrainer Free first and that starts DNS 11.5. With the KnowBrainer Free window up, if I say "Pick1" at the DNS correction window it types "pick one," and if I say "Delete all" it says it can't find matching text. None of the KnowBrainer commands have any effect as far as I can see.

I'm not sure I have all of or the correct documentation. The only .pdf included is"NatPro_Quick_Tips." There's "KnowBrainer Free.docx," which is a list of commands with no description or explanation, although it's pretty obvious what most of them should do. Also, Help opens an IE browser window with text just saying it's a placeholder with today's date, but maybe that's normal with the free version.

I'd like to use it to get a taste of the full product before purchasing it, but either I'm doing something wrong or there's something missing.

Thanks-

-Susan

Unfortunately we must have screwed up something major as KnowBrainer FREE is doing nothing but typing text for all of the commands we issued. Our best guess is that we accidentally rolled back to the 1st beta but we will get this fixed and post a solution back here pronto.

Unfortunately our timetable is tried to our programmer so at this point, all we can tell you is that he's working on it.

KnowBrainer FREE has been reissued. There was a problem with a hidden field in the previous database which has been corrected.

Hi Lunis-

Still no joy, I'm afraid. I tried several commands without results (eg., "Pick 2" at the Correction window typed what I said instead of selecting the 2nd correction) and the "Help" in the KnowBrainer window takes me to a site that never displays any content.

I was hopeful and thanks for getting the free version out again, but it's just not working for me for some reason.

Well DUH! Please accept our apologies AGAIN. We managed to earn our “KnowBrainer” name by bungling the upload. Instead of uploading a proper self executable zip file, we uploaded a standard zip file which wasn't linked to the original KnowBrainer FREE. Please give it another try as we have just replaced the previous upload. You can install right over your existing defective installation.
