I was recently upgraded to LN 8.5.  When running Dragon 11.5 legal I am getting a serious performance lag on LN.  My machine should be more than adequate.

Lenovo w520

windows ultimate 64

Intel SSD 160 and 2820 chip

Lunis suggested I reach out, any and all help is greatly appreciated.  Thanks

Are you still using a Bluetooth microphone and utilizing 4 Gb of RAM?

You appear to have plenty processing power but there are a couple of issues: NaturallySpeaking doesn't really get along well with Lotus Notes and you might want to consider using the DNS Dictation Box or the KnowBrainer NotePad commands to jump back and forth when working with Lotus Notes. However, because of the Ver. 11 doubled sampling rate, we have put Blueparrott Xpressway microphone on clearance and will no longer be recommending or offering any Bluetooth microphones on our site. Even the new 3 & 4.0 standards doesn't include appropriate sampling rates for DNS Ver. 11 and we believe you would be better off using a different microphone and USB soundcard.

BZimm:

I have basically the same software and hardware configuration as you, except my set-up does not involve the use of a SS drive and it has 8GB of memory not 16GB like yours.  I run quite a number of programs that are quite memory intensive without any performance or latency problems, but for Lotus Notes.  After checking with a number of sources and checking the computer for problems, which none were found, I have concluded that there seems to be an inherent incompatibility between Lotus Notes and DNS Legal 11.5, or DNS generally as Lunis seems to suggest.  As a result, this has forced me to use Lotus Notes without the use of DNS.

Nelson,

While the Dragon help doesn't indicate what versions of Lotus Notes are supported under DNS 11.5, I do know that there are Natural Language Commands and dictation support for Lotus Notes up to version 8. I would suggest that you review the Dragon help on Lotus Notes because I think you're throwing the baby out with the bathwater. On the other hand, if you're trying to use the Legal vocabulary user profile to dictate every day e-mails and documents, the legal vocabulary is not designed for that purpose just like the specialty vocabularies for the medical version are not designed for that purpose. To do general dictation, you should create a separate user profile using the General-Large vocabulary.

I've never had any problems using Lotus Notes with Dragon NaturallySpeaking (i.e., any version up to including 11.5 and Lotus Notes 8. The only thing I'm not sure about is whether support for Lotus Notes 8 includes 8.5.

Chucker:

I agree my experience and response to Lotus Notes 8.5 really amounts to throwing the "baby out with the bathg water".  However, I just find it so unresponsive that absence a solution I went to Plan B, which was not my first option since Lotus Notes is quite a useful program.  I will look at the help file again as suggested. In terms of the profile mine is legal - large that is used for all word processing functions involving legal work or not, including e-mail communications using Outlook. I always thought the only difference between the professional and legal versions was that the legal vocabulary was added to the professional with other enhancements.  As a result, it appears this was a misunderstanding and will try setting up a general - large profile but I suspect that given the nature of my dictation that involves both legal, non-legal and extensive use of e-mail for both that it may be difficullt to bifurcate or isolate the two profiles.  Again, thanks for your helpful advise.

Hi - For what it's worth, we are a Notes shop and on a recent call to Nuance for help (ugh), I was informed that they do not support Notes 8.5.x and the tech was not even sure if they supported anything beyond Notes 7.x versions.  It is VERY frustrating to use DNS with Notes now - not just for dictation, but for all commands and functions in general!
