I apologize if this topic has been covered elsewhere but I could not find it in a search.  I have been using Know Brainer 2011 D for the last month or so now, along with dragon NaturallySpeaking Medical version 11, on a Windows 7 computer operating system.  When the command to close Know Brainer is given, I will occasionally get the verbal response from the KnowBrainer program stating that it is closing KnowBrainer, Dragon NaturallySpeaking and saving user files.  However, the only program that closes is KnowBrainer.  The programs never shut down properly, in sequence, as it did when I was running this on Windows XP. Most of the time now, I am not getting any type of verbal response from the computer.  KnowBrainer will shut down but Dragon remains open.  I will then have to give a verbal commands to close Dragon.  Dragon will automatically save user files.  I was wondering if other users have experienced this problem with KnowBrainer.  I am still learning the KnowBrainer commands and may not be aware of other commands that are not functioning properly.

When we originally wrote this command, it worked with the 1st release of NaturallySpeaking 11 but at some point, something has changed and the close DragonBar portion of the command no longer functions. The Close KnowBrainer command is a global command which you can edit via the following:

1. Say
Edit Global Command
to open the KnowBrainer Command Browser

2. Say
no-caps close no-brainer to select the Close KnowBrainer
command

3. Say
click edit
to click the Edit button and replace the current script with the following green script:
SetMicrophone 0
TTSPlayString "closing KnowBrainer, NaturallySpeaking and saving speech files"
Wait 1000
HeardWord "Switch","Knowbrainer"
Wait 1000
HeardWord "close","editor"
Wait 1000
SendSystemKeys "{Alt+F4}"
Wait 1000
HeardWord "switch","to","DragonBar"
Wait 1000
SendSystemKeys "{Alt+F4}"
Wait 1000
SendSystemKeys "{Alt+y}"
Wait 2000
SendSystemKeys "{Alt+y}"

4. Click the Save button, close KnowBrainer and then re-launch KnowBrainer for the changes to take effect.

Note that the same change can be applied to the
Close KnowBrainer Without Saving command and that we will fix both of these commands in the upcoming December Rev E release

Lunis, are you saying that KnowBrainer Free will take the place of KnowBrainer 2011 or will it merge with the program I already purchased?  I am confused by this and am wondering why it has taken so long to correct the problem in the software.

KnowBrainer Free will be a stripped-down free version of KnowBrainer. Think of it as KnowBrainer Lite. This version of KnowBrainer will only include a handful of commands and will not allow the end-user to create personal commands. In other words you don't want this version of KnowBrainer. It is simply a teaser that we can give out to customers who are unaware of what KnowBrainer adds to NaturallySpeaking.

I guess I do not understand what those of us who paid for KB 2011 are supposed to do.  Will there be an updated version for us to access through KnowBrainer with our registration codes?

Those who paid for or received complimentary copies of KnowBrainer 2011 shouldn't do anything because KnowBrainer FREE is a stripped-down version that is designed to be a tickler. Think of your current version of KnowBrainer as a 20 pound box of chocolate and KnowBrainer FREE as a 1\2 pound chocolate sampler box.

KnowBrainer FREE is simply designed to whet people's appetites. It has nowhere near the functionality of KnowBrainer 2011 and you would not want to install it because you would lose 95% of your commands and the ability to create personal commands. You might think of it as KnowBrainer Lite.

Speaking of updated versions, when KnowBrainer FREE is released, KnowBrainer 2012 will also be released and will be a free upgrade to existing KnowBrainer 2010 and 2011 owners because this is considered to be a minor upgrade; like going from NaturallySpeaking 11 to 11.5. Since the update will not be finished until, hopefully, sometime in January, we are simply renaming it.

As usual, our programmer is still holding us up so we cannot yet give you a firm date on the release of KnowBrainer 2012 other than it will be a free incremental upgrade to KnowBrainer 2010/11 users.

We were just reading, on another forum, about 1 of our competitors giving 2 microphone demonstrations at a conference with a whopping 32 attendees in June of 2008 in Phoenix which he found to be exhilarating. He is still talking about it which gave us a chuckle. Exhilarating is also the only word we can come up with but exhilarating probably doesn't begin to explain the 4 exhausting days of nonstop demonstrations in front of 150,000+ CES attendees in Las Vegas. The only time we had to take a few snaps was before the show opened. If we had taken before and after pictures you might not recognize the booth. By the end of the convention, we looked more like lifeless zombies than exhibitors

Speaking of KnowBrainer 2012 delays… That looks like our programmer Thanos Kontonassios beside the shady looking character in the Fedora. I think I'm beginning to see why our programmer hasn't had time to finish KnowBrainer 2012…

Lunis-I replaced the command as instructed but still have inconsistent responses to the close KnowBrainer command. It is as if the correction will not stay permanently. I am wondering if revision E is available as of yet?  Happy New Year!

Unfortunately this will probably not be fully functional until we release REV E which has been delayed because our programmer is currently tied up with our Canadian division. However, we will come together in Las Vegas on January 11 because we are both working in the Speech Command Technology Booth.

Isn't there some mistake in here:

Is actually working on our computer so we are not 100% certain at this point. We don't believe there's an issue with the HeardWord "Switch", "Knowbrainer" part of the sequence but the HeardWord "start", "KB2011" script, which is only used in 1 command, is currently broken along with a couple of rarely him implemented VerbalBasic codes. However, more importantly, the KB 2011 synchronizer (used to backup command file) isn't working either. Hopefully we can get this fixed in January when we release KnowBrainer FREE (KnowBrainer Lite)

So is there really a KnowBrainer command named "Switch KnowBrainer", because there certainly is no Dragon command like this.

On an unrelated note, will you get yourself a shirt to wear by then? And shoes?

The Switch KnowBrainer command is hardcoded. We created it because NaturallySpeaking had a tendency to ignore DNS switch to KnowBrainer and open KnowBrainer commands.

Shirt, more or less but shoes, definitely a question as I always wear
5 fingers shoes, a gangster fedora and a Scepter cane.
