An incremental upgrade of KnowBrainer 2011 and KnowBrainer Medical/Legal 2011 Rev C has just been uploaded to the website. These are free upgrades for existing KnowBrainer 2010/2011 and KnowBrainer Medical 2011 users. Just use your existing serial number to install. If you have existing KnowBrainer commands that you wish to preserve, agree to the Sync option when prompted. Before installing KnowBrainer 2011 you might want to make an additional backup copy of your KnowBrainer command file by saying Start KnowBrainer Sync and clicking the Back Up button. This will create a backup copy of your existing KnowBrainer commands at C:\Program Files (x86)\KnowBrainer2011 ~ in Windows 7 64-bit. Delete the (x86) for all other operating systems

Are there any changes to the executable, or just the commands? Is there any reason to upgrade to it other than to get the few new commands?

Only the KnowBrainer Medical executable was changed because of a linking issue to the desktop shortcut. However, since we have been working on a number of new commands (most of which have been incorporated into VerbalBasic), we additionally chose to make an incremental upgrade to the standard KnowBrainer 2011 to keep both products up-to-date. Where you have created a number of specialized KnowBrainer commands, we don't recommend installing REV C at this time but you can always tell what we add to each revision of KnowBrainer by saying What's New in KnowBrainer.

Lunis, Should I be uninstalling the previous version? The version that keeps opening without an uninstall is version A. |

Lunis, In your post, can I click the KnowBrainer 2011 highlighted link then download and save the application to somewhere on my computer? Is this application KnowBrainer 2011 with Rev C included? Secondly, do I need to uninstall the original KnowBrainer 2011 without the Rev C included first before I then install the latest version with Rev C included? I then just use my existing serial number to install it. If this is the incorrect way of going about it, could you give me a step-by-step instructional guide on how I should incorporate the new KnowBrainer 2011 with Rev C into my system without it conflicting with the previous version of KnowBrainer please?

The answer to the first question is yes you can as I have already downloaded it from the link. As to your second question, I haven't got that far yet.

I know it doesn't really matter where you download it to, but where did you download yours to? Would it be in downloads? That is where I was going to put mine. Quote: As to your second question, I haven't got that far yet. Perhaps you can let me know when you have sorted out the next bit. Perhaps Lunis may come back and tell us anyway on how to complete ;-) Cheers ------------------------- Tiger Feet |

Okay, I have downloaded the application to 'Downloads' on my computer. I was getting a security message in red:
'Kb2011setup.exe is not commonly downloaded and could harm your computer.' I am also getting a red shield icon with a white cross in the middle of it. I am given 3 options. 'Delete', 'Actions' and 'View downloads'. When I click on 'Actions', I have the red shield with the white cross on it again with the title next to it 'This program might harm your computer'. I am then given another 3 options. 'Don't run this program' (recommended), 'Delete program' or 'Run anyway'. What should I do here? Should I just run it? Is this security warning just a normal safety occurrence and the setup should be quite safe to run? The application is in downloads as I said. I checked it with malwarebytes and Microsoft Security essentials and they were both telling me it is clean.

Tiger, This is simply the added protection introduced with IE 9. It is not telling you that what you are trying to download is an absolute "threat". It's simply telling you that it has the potential because it's an executable (exe file). Like the User Account Control (UAC), it's simply a warning. If you're sure that it safe, then you can save it and/or run it.. Microsoft is just giving you the choice with its recommendation. Microsoft Security Essentials would tell you before you even get to this point whether or not there is a virus, Malware, or any other related problem with this download. You don't even have to run it to check it. If you don't get a warning from Microsoft Security Essentials, then don't worry about it. Regardless, this is simply a new feature in IE 9 that everybody's going to have to get to use to. Quote: This is simply the added protection introduced with IE 9. Chuck, Thanks for the explanation and re-assurance that has now put my mind at rest. IE 9 has become very security conscious, which isn't a bad thing I suppose :-). Now that I have the new KnowBrainer 2011 Rev C in my downloads, can you (or anybody else) answer the second part of my question I put in an earlier post within this thread? This is what I asked. Quote: Secondly, do I need to uninstall the original KnowBrainer 2011 without the Rev C included first before I then install the latest version with Rev C included? I then just use my existing serial number to install it. If this is the incorrect way of going about it, could you give me a step-by-step instructional guide on how I should incorporate the new KnowBrainer 2011 with Rev C into my system without it conflicting with the previous version of KnowBrainer please? My system is intricate. I have a lot of programs that start-up automatically on bootup. One of them is KnowBrainer so with the new KnowBrainer with Rev C, this has to work exactly as the original, earlier version of KnowBrainer does. I believe Jomark is also at this stage where all he has done at the moment is download KnowBrainer with Rev C. At some stage, he will also be installing it. I need to know how.

It is never necessary to uninstall KnowBrainer. If you are installing the same version of KnowBrainer, ie 2010, 2011 etc. then it will simply overwrite the existing files with the new files. It should prompt you to sync so that you can preserve any previous commands but this can prevent some of our fixes.
If you install a new version of KnowBrainer on a computer that has an older version, both versions will remain installed because KnowBrainer 2011 installs into the KnowBrainer2011 directory. Please note that REV C is only an incremental upgrade that wouldn't have been released but we needed to update KnowBrainer Medical and add a number of new VerbalBasic commands. We also added a few new features like the ability to click on hyperlinks in Microsoft Word and Outlook. Anyone with KnowBrainer 2010 or previous version of KnowBrainer 2011 can use their existing serial number along with the download links at the top of this page. KnowBrainer 2011 has not undergone any major changes since REV A but if you haven't created any personal KnowBrainer commands, it's definitely worth the trouble to download an upgrade. -------------------------

As you can see from my profile and signature, I already have KnowBrainer 2011. So all I need to do then going by what you are saying, is install the new application 2011 Rev C and this will simply overwrite the existing 2011 application I have. Am I also to assume with this scenario, I do not need to use my KB 2011 serial number? Quote: It should prompt you to sync so that you can preserve any previous commands but this can prevent some of our fixes. I do not recall adding any extra commands so your fixes will work if I ignore to 'sync', then. Is this the case? Quote: We also added a few new features like the ability to click on hyperlinks in Microsoft Word and Outlook. That is very handy. Just let you know, I also have these as a macro in my DNS Professional that Lindsay gave me. I can open hyperlinks within Word and Outlook with this also. Because of this, will they conflict in any way? Or, can I use either the KnowBrainer command to open a hyperlink or the DNS Pro macro to do the same without them conflicting with each other?

Quote: I do not recall adding any extra commands so your fixes will work if I ignore to 'sync', then. Is this the case? Yes Only commands with the same names can conflict. We have forgotten the names of Lindsay's commands but the KnowBrainer commands are Open <Next or Previous> Hyperlink and Open <1st – 8th> Hyperlink. Lindsay's commands should be quicker but we wanted this option to additionally be available to Premium and Home Edition end-users too. -------------------------
