I've been using Vista Business on a new Dell Inspiron notebook with 2 GB. of memory (the max it can hold). When using Vista with Office 2007 programs--primarily Outlook and Word--Vista "fades" or gets somewhat translucent and the "time out" circle appears and keeps spinning for 30 seconds. This occurs with some frequency when forwarding an email in Outlook or when attaching a file to an email before sending it. If this were a once in a while problem I could live with it but it's so regular, I may switch back to XP pro. I'd appreciate any help anyone can provide on this vexing issue.

Have you tried opening the task manager to see what is going on with your memory and page file?
To open the task manager: 1: right click on the task bar and click Task manager. Or alternatively 2: Press CTRL+SHIFT+ESC at the same time. It used to be CTRL + ALT + DLT. Also know as the three fingered salute. http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/help/0da9bb3d-22c6-4b4d-a020-f75a2a0ef8671033.mspx See I you are using all your memory (MEM usage). Also see what is going on with your page file. Is your page file set to a static min – max or is it set to the default ability to grow as needed? Also check for memory leaks. See my prior post on how to trouble shoot a memory leak here: http://www.knowbrainer.com/PubForum/index.cfm?page=viewForumTopic&topicId=4481 Personally I am not a fan of outlook. If it were me I would run Thunderbird. In any case, if outlook is the problem you might try backing up your mail, removing the program and reinstalling it. ------------------------- Intel E8400 Core 2 Duo 3.00 GHz Wolfdale 6MB L2 cache CPU, Gigabyte EP45-UD3P motherboard, 4 GB DDR2 1066 RAM, Buddy USB pod 6g sound card, The Boom C microphone, Seagate 475 GB 7200 RPM hard drive, Windows XP SP3. You may be suffering from system overload or some other underlying issue, for which Aldebaran has provided some good suggestions. However, I doubt seriously that it's a memory leak and it is not being caused by DNS. This is entirely and Outlook performance issue. I wanted to add that Outlook and Outlook express are two different client e-mail solutions. Outlook is usually used by large business. It’s a bigger program than Outlook Express. Outlook Express is smaller and uses less resources. Both are more likely to be compromised by viruses than a free program like Thunderbird.
Another obvious thing to check in Task Manager is CPU utilization and check the CPU Time. The system idle process is the only item that should have times that have an hour number. If anything else is hogging memory then that process is part of a program that is hung up. The technical term is an endless loop. So if Outlook is open and it’s thread is hogging memory, then outlook is corrupted. ------------------------- Intel E8400 Core 2 Duo 3.00 GHz Wolfdale 6MB L2 cache CPU, Gigabyte EP45-UD3P motherboard, 4 GB DDR2 1066 RAM, Buddy USB pod 6g sound card, The Boom C microphone, Seagate 475 GB 7200 RPM hard drive, Windows XP SP3.
